"There's going to be a lot of empty theaters come next spring."
Well, the only good thing about shows closing is that currently there are plenty of new productions waiting in the wings for theatres. That demand could dampen some if the economy woes continue, but I don't think you will see any Broadway house sitting empty for too long anytime in the forseeable future.
Phantom of the Opera!!!!
OMG Wicked, Phantom, Jersey Boys and Mamma Mia!
Those will still be here after the atom bomb drops. The cockroaches, Chita Rivera and PHANTOM, MAMMA MIA and JERSEY BOYS.

Michael: Hilarious.
Robert: Your sarcasm is a breath of fresh air!
Adam: It's a fine line between profit and loss on broadway.
The intention isn't that it is a negative thread. But you will find a number of people freaked out about the current economic conditions in the country. Traveling to New York with the family and seeing Broadway shows will not be on people's lists this winter. I reckon that you will see a number of shows closing in the New Year. That is a fact that you can't deny, unless you are blind to the current conditions.
Oh, I can only hope Young Frankenstein closes. I unfortunately saw it on my last trip due to the fact it was the only ticket left after running around for 2 hours. Anyway... it is such an atrocity to theatre that after watching it, I just pray it closes soon.
Anyway, other shows that can't last much longer:
13
Spamalot
and how I hope and I pray that PotO will close ASAP but that will probably last FOREVER! GAH!
geerkgirl,
PRAY? Seriously? PRAY a show closes?
Pray that hundreds of technicians, actors and other workers are out of a job in a crap economy for an unsure length of time? It's one thing to say that you think a show has run its course, but to PRAY it closes?
Pray?
That digusts me. Really disgusts me.

So let me get this straight, someone says that, essentially, she gets down on her knees every night and makes a wish to whatever God she prays to that a show close and hundreds lose their job, and I call her out for her behavior...and I'm dramatic?
All this in a thread that any educated person should know would devolve into mud-throwing and nastiness. JRTO, you knew this would cause drama, and I'M dramatic?
This entire thread sickens me. Hopefully the moderators delete it soon.

As stated before, this was not intended to be negative. This is a business and we're analyzing it.
And you're taking someone's words very literally. Again. Dramatic.
And why would an educated person know that this would devolve into mud-throwing? It's an analysis. Plain and simple.
Just go away if you don't like the thread.
Anyone else have any thoughts about what shows won't be able to survive the economic problems we're having?

Robert Taylor - I agree with you - pray that something closes? Why? Has it done something against society?
Things will close because of the terrible economic crisis we are having, but we can pray that people get other jobs and are not out of work too long.
I just find this all very sad.
