Referring back about a week or so to a thread started about The Producers, with some bitter (I don't know why) people calling for it to close, I was thrilled to see that this week, it grossed $846,193, up $82,000 from last week, and came in at 92% capacity, and grossed almost $100,000 more than Phantom (which is in a larger house). Pretty good for freezing February.

It was President's Week for every other show too.

O, I know. I was just saying that in reference to your freezing February comment.
Bitter or not, those people could've had a point. The show was not selling well. I'm glad to see the turnaround, though.
Well, I guess we'll have to see how it does in the coming weeks. Maybe the low grosses were just a fluke...who knows? Anyways, it is a slow season for Broadway...so what it's President's Day, which is on a Monday and is a dark day for a lot of shows. Most people seem to go on weekends anyway.

New York City school's were closed last week (for some unfathomable reason), practically every show was packed.

You tell 'em Glinda! I hope it keeps packing them in! I love that show.
The backlash is sort of to be expected. After sweeping Tony Awards (which some feel should have been more evenly divided amongst the other nomines) theatre fans might be led to expect that this is the greatest musical ever, and it isn't. It's enjoayle, very funny and a deserved hit. But the acclaim pushed it to far for some. (Just as the WICKED airheads on this board have ruined that show for some.) Shows that are good but get overhyped suffer this all the time. Flawed shows (RENT, WICKED, MILLIE) that get over-praised get this backlash too.
Point i as soon as anyone posts here that they liek a show and a few peple agree with them, one yahoo has to come along and post the really intelligent comment that "it sucks." Of course they never back it up with any thought or subtstance.
In short, don't let the naysayers bother you. Just enjoy what you enjoy and see what you want.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Agreed
Even if it grossed about 100,000 more then POTO, POTOT still was at 97.5% capacity and has been open much longer...Sorry I just don't like the Producers...
No one says you have to like THE PRODUCERS. But it is crazy to start spreading rumours that a show that has grossed over 60 million is going to close soon just because it had a few slow weeks. Wait until the grosses are conistently below 70% and the $ are below $500 K.
Hey, I would love to see POTO close but until it starts losing money that ain't gonna happen!
Broadway is a business, after all.
