I recently saw The Producers and wanted to put up a review. My review will not be about the quality of the show itself, but the ages that should it. This is because a common misconception is that The Producers is a family show - it is not. You are likely to be uncomfortable if you bring kids to the show.
The Reasons is is Not for Kids:
(1) There is extensive use of swearing
(2) There are a lot of sexual references
(3) There is a simulated scene of sex
(4) There is a song "Keep it Gay" that includes people wearing suits that show an erection, a drag queen, as well as other inappropriate things for kids. Also, there is a part of it in which the drag queen attempts to kiss the main character.
(5) The kids won't understand the show - the plot is complicated.
I would say that people who are ages 15+ can see this show.
It was really not that great in my opinion.

Thanks for the non-review. One question...
There is a common misconception that the producers is a family show...
Since when?
So kids aren't allowed to see a song about being gay?
Would that damage them for life?
If the song was "Keep it Straight," would it be ok?
OH I GET IT!
Is this Michael Richards' biggoted twin brother?
"Also, there is a part of it in which the drag queen attempts to kiss the main character."
What's so offensive about two men smooching?

This is a pointless post. EVERYONE knows that Mel Brooks is not for kids! This has NEVER been labled as a family show!
It's been around for 6 years! Why tell us this know!?
I would not worry to much about kids
My wifes niece (15) curses like a drunken sailor & regularly curses out her parents. Naturally her parents constantly reward her insteac of hauling off & belting her occasionally for talking to them like that.

Huh? A sex change?! Are you referring to Shirley Markowitz? I believe she is just supposed to be a butch lesbian. After all, she starts checking out Ulla at the ending pose of the first act.
Also, I don't believe the choreographer has an erection. I believe it is a simple joke in regards to mens dancebelts and dancers looking like they are either well-endowed or that they have stuffed a sock in their pants.
Regardless, this is not a kid's show, nor a show for people from the "square states."

Little kids should not see sexual references such as those. I am totally fine with it being homosexual references, but it isn't appropriate for little kids. I wouldn't approve of it if it were heterosexual references either. It was inappropriate.
I would not teach my 5 year old about sex until he is older, therefore, I don't want him watching a show that will stimulate questions.
But the fact is 95% of parents are NOT bringing their 5 year old to THE PRODUCERS.
Most parents wouldn't bring their 5 year olds to most musicals, unless it is The Sound Of Music or Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Otherwise they spring for Disney on Ice or Sesame Street live.
I'm still confused how The Producers is seen as a family show. Many advertisements I've seen have had pictures of Ulla and Rodger DeBris on them. Blonde Bombshells and Drag Queens don't lend themselves well to family entertainment.
It has not and never will be labeled as a family show. This poster's "review" basically gives voice to something everyone already knew, effectively accomplishing nothing.

So you would run and shield your child's delicate eyes if it were a guy and a girl kissing? Hm.
i saw the producers on broadway when i was 13, almost 14, and didn't really get it. i mean, i understood the plot, but i didn't REALLY get the satire and humor
i just saw the tour last week in philadelphia and i got it soooo much better (i am 18 now). i could appreciate the humor and all that...
but i was SHOCKED to see 8 year olds there!!!
I didn't know people thought this show was child friendly. Playbill.com lists the show as mature. Too many people make decisions without much research & then get pissy after the fact. People need to be more well-informed.

I apologize for being misinformed. I guess it was my misconception that it was a family show.
