is it up yet?
Don't think so. I've been looking around, and also would think Anthony will announce it when it happens.

I think if someone knew it was up someone would immediately post it.

whois info: Warner Bros. has registered "rentthemovie.net" but it's not up yet.
where is em... she would know
It isn't up yet, but should be http://rent.warnerbros.com
Thanks Capn
Yeah I figured that they'd probably put it up when they have more stuff to put on the site from the filming, so maybe in May? I don't know thats just my guess.
"Teaser" Site should be up in June. Full Site should be up September.
Depends on their marketing strategy.
My question is: Why Warner Bros? Isn't "Rent" being produced by De Niro's Revolution Studios and distributed by Columbia Pictures?
I thought it was Paramount... this could get interesting.
What about Dreamworks?
*feels like starting confusion*
NO, Dreamworks RECORDS released the OBC but have no attachment to the film version.
I'm pretty sure it's Revolution Studios with Columbia Pictures as the distributor.
Ha. I have no clue who is doing it, I just felt like adding more names into the mix.

Maybe there's still the Chris Columbus association with Harry Potter? I'm getting confused too...
Either way- teaser site in July (OOO! My birthday's then. ^^)...hopefully they'll have some good stuff.
This was all discussed before recently, but I guess some of you missed it. Warner Brothers was associated with RENT briefly a year or so ago, but as far as I can tell no longer has anything to do with it. They no doubt got that domain name when they thought they might need it.
Revolution is producing RENT in association with DeNiro's Tribeca Productions and a couple of others. Revolution has a distribution deal with Sony, and I would expect the official site to be with either Sony or Revolution.

yeah I missed it because I don't have time to read zillions of posts, lol ... sorry! ... Anyway, Sony, cool ...
Not sure how this might apply to their Rent site, but I know that Sony can be very supportive of fan sites. They understand what an important resource they can be.
example of cooperation between Sony and a Kevin Kline fan site
That's good to know. Anthony Rapp has written that the RENT site will include blogs and video diaries.
According to IMDb its being produced by Revolutions and distributed by Columbia and Sony. Its too bad that Warner Brothers isn't producing it because I won some behind the scenes pass at a raffle a while ago to the WB studio sets in LA for anytime this year. That could have come in handy had RENT been filming with WB....*sighs with dissapointment*
This doesn't seem to to be accurate, but this message was posted on 4/5/05 in the "Welcome Anthony Rapp" thread in reply to a question i asked:
"Robert DeNiro (the very same) and his company, Tribeca Films, optioned the film rights to Rent back in '96."
Hmmmmm...
I feel like somewhere, there are actually pictures of DeNiro and the OBC. I was always wondering what the connection was.

not sure. but maybe they'll put pictures on the official movie site.
I think Broadway Baby's right Anthony did mention DeNiro. But I'm still not sure.
Ah yes, Warner is doing another movie musical. Since it's Revolution/Columbia/Sony, their Site should be:

Q: I hear the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Rent is being made into a film by Miramax. When will it come out? --M.A., Vernon Hills, Ill.
A: "Because the show is still sold out and there are plans to open companies in Japan and Australia, the producers are not ready to finalize any sales of rights," says a publicist for
Rent. But he acknowledges that Miramax and its partner, Robert De Niro's Tribeca Productions, "have the intention of buying the rights."
So Anthony was substantially correct in saying De Niro's interest in this project dates way back. Miramax is out of it now, of course, but De Niro and his producing partner Jane Rosenthal are still two of the movie's producers, and their Tribeca Productions is one of the participating companies.
It gets really confusing these days with so many entities involved. There are four companies listed as producers for the film, including Revolution, Tribeca and 1492, which is Chris Columbus' company. (He's also one of the producers.) The fourth one, called simply RENT Productions, is a company no doubt created specifically for this film. There always seems to be one of those in the projects I work on.
So much for producers. Then there are the distributors - Sony (which has a deal with Revolution) for the US, and Columbia for some foreign markets. Head spinning enough?

fwiw, someone at Sony with whom I happen to have been in contact recently about something totally unrelated offered this when I asked them about the Rent movie web site:
"Yes, RENT is a Sony picture. The movie comes out 11/11, so the site will probably be up by the end of summer...maybe August. These dates are very flexible though."
They went on to express their personal excitement about the film, saying they're a huge fan of the show ... called Anthony Rapp "great" and said they'd seen him in Little Shop of Horrors in LA.
Anyway, thought I'd pass that along ... just remember the "very flexible" part! :)
