Re: Darcy James, PiraguaGuy2 - yes, Normal has had a longer run, but Brian played a title character in a bigger show, got a great deal of press, and probably made a much, much greater salary than Normal could have offered. And, icing on the cake, he gets to go back into the old show and do the role anyway. From his point of view, I imagine he feels he made the choice that was better for his career.
Im just so confused about this "white guilt" theme that keeps coming up? Who feels guilty enough to pay hundreds of dollars to see something. Something, i might add that most dont even know what to expect? Listen if you saw this and there were some issues that it brought up in you that made you feel guilty, then maybe face that stuff and try to deal with it.
Its gotta be something personal. I think the story is something to empathize with. To place yourself in those shoes, or to say "what if that happened to one i loved.
Though i doubt people care WHY you buy tickets, i dont think theyll be banking on the guilty masses. Maybe more on the fact that shows pretty awesome.
White guilt, how ridiculous! I saw this show twice and didn't like it (I loved it), and the only guilt I would feel is not seeing this show again on Broadway at ticket prices well worth the cost. The color of my skin has nothing to do with seeing a show that moves musical theater to another level deserving of Pulitzer and acclaim. This show is not entertainment. The Scottsboro Boys is perfection and, more importantly, art.
i'm sure this show will have discounts before it opens.

Not only did d'Arcy James do Shrek, but he also did Time Stands Still, which I think was his best work to date.
