Has anyone seen this movie? It's coming on right now on HBO. I've seen the play and I love it, but I'm kinda curious to see how the movie works out.
The film is an excellent adaptation of the play. I couldn't have asked for it to turn out better than it did.

Agreed--I saw it off broadway at the Promenade and later saw the film....they did an excellent job. And I hope you don't mind sharing Paul
one of my favorite plays.
the movie cast is the same as the play's original cast in London - i would love to direct this someday.

I actually didn't like the movie adaptation that much. I didn't like how Labute took out the ending where Adam re-watched the tape where Evelyn whispered something in his ear. To me, that part is so important and I don't understand why he would take that out.
I also didn't think that the film did Evelyn's art presentation justice because I would have liked it better if they didn't do the spotlight on Adam and have her go up and talk to him to his face. I mean I know what Evelyn did was wrong and made her such a bitch, but I don't think she would be mean enough to point him out infront of everyone before she humiliated him. I think she would have just let him sit and feel more and more uneasy in the darkness of the audience.
However, nothing could beat the experience on stage where Paul Rudd as Adam actually sat with the audience while Rachel Weiz as Evelyn delievered her presentation. My professor's friend went to a performance and Paul Rudd actually asked her if he could sit next to her. Evelyn's utter humiliation of him was so uncomfortable that my professor's friend couldn't even look at Paul Rudd sitting next to her. So I can understand why Labute felt he needed to shake something up to capture that power, but I don't think he made the right choice.
Has anyone seen the taped version that is at the New York Public Library?
I'm not from the US but I just was curious to how it looks.
I've only seen the movie...I didn't expect much and I was blown away. I thought Rachel Weisz was amazing. I can understand why someone wouldn't like the piece, but the themes on beauty and manipulation really affected me.
I agree with BobbyBubby, I read a lot about the play mainly through websites and publications like Variety, because Canadian media in the west didn't really feature anything, although they launched the play in Edmonton, Alberta at the Citadel theatre but I didn't want to see it without the original cast.
When I saw the first scene of the movie, I was astounded in terms of the dialog. The movie does sound like a play, but it's written intelligently. It is a different type of movie. I told my older sister to check it out, but I think she found the material too extravagant.
I wonder how the movie plays out when it’s translated into a different language? A French translation would be interesting.

I wonder what other people thought of the film adaptation of this piece.
