I recently saw a production of this musical at a Repertory theatre in my area. I had to leave in the second act but I didn't get to see the ending so who won the essay contest and what happened about Hannah's son? thanx!

It was a couple year ago that I saw it. As I remember it, they spend a lot of time evaluating the entries, many of which tugged the heartstrings and would have been great winners. But, at the end, they decided to keep the place and disregard the whole contest. I liked the show, but that ending was a let-down.
The resolution of Hannah's story with her son was anticlimactic too. I think they just ended up hugging at the end or something.

Posted: 9/24/03 at 3:31pmAfter enjoying the whole show, I will admit that the ending was not up to par with the rest of it. And a drastic change from the end of the movie (which I will not give here in case people have not seen it).
