instead get Bright Eyed Joy: The Songs of Ricky Ian Gordon
he's insanely talented and it's brilliant (plus Audra and Geuttel are on the cd)

Posted: 5/7/06 at 8:05pmI got "My Life with Albertine" a few months back, written by Gordon I believe. And I have yet to get through the recording. I figured with Keli O'Hara and Chad Kimball on it, I'd love it, but I was mistaken. I find it otherwise boring and not melodious at all. But I'll look into that Cd. Maybe I'll like his music better as complilation.

Terrific album. Some definitive interpretations on this cd. It starts off witha very perky Laura Benanti "Godspell" medley, beltastic Alice Ripley and Christiane Noll, via a gorgeous Marin Mazzie "Gifts of Love" and ends up with her hubbie soaring on "Out There". Now of course i missed out most of the songs but those are just my highlights
A little tip for getting it cheaper than most US outlets. Check amazon.co.uk
Its Varsese Sarabande and a lot of their catalogue is still in print in Europe. At least thats how I picked up my copy a few years back. The only problem is that the amazon uk website is attrocious! Much harder to get a match on searches than the US version.

Posted: 5/7/06 at 8:14pm£8.44 ---> that's their cheapest. What does that come out to in U.S. Dollars?

Posted: 5/7/06 at 8:45pmLooks like prices in the US have come down since i looked for my copy. check out amazon.com and you can get it from caiman for around $16 which is around the same as the uk price. hope that helps!

Posted: 5/7/06 at 8:59pmYeah, I saw that on Amazon.com as well. Didn't realize it was such a pricey CD. Some of them go up to like $54 - that' way too much for this.

if you don't like Albertine, you won't like Bright Eyed... it's just more of the same.
it's not for everyone. I HATED albertine the first time i listened to it, and only actually got into it a year or so later

Posted: 5/7/06 at 9:33pmYeah, I'll give it time to grow on me, but I haven't made it through the album yet. But a lot of things have to grow on me, like LaChiusa and the Jane Eyre score.

Posted: 5/8/06 at 8:29amIt's a great CD. I agree with most of the highlights that people have mentioned. I'd add, Kristin Chenoweth on "Lion Tamer", Schwartz himself on "fathers and sons". The "Guy haines" track is terrible and Egan's "meadowlark" is a little boring, but otherwise - this is a good CD. I too would avoid "Bright Eyed Joy". I have it and made it through just once (even with Audra)!

Already Ann Marie Milazzo's version of "When You Believe" is a good reason to buy this cd!
Not to mention it has Dorothy Loudon's "No Time At All", Emily Skinner's "Chanson", Brian D'Arcy James & Luba Mason duet "In What Ever Time We Have" and Marin Mazzie's fabulous "With You/Gifts Of Love"... all of them great tracks and performances.
