The Steve Lawrence Musicals

Had a chance to listen to the Original Cast Recordings of the two Steve Lawrence Broadway musicals WHAT MAKES SAMMY RUN? and GOLDEN RAINBOW (Which he starred with his wfe, Eydie Gorme). Two very interesting scores to say the least! SAMMY had some nice songs such as "A Room Without Windows" and "Maybe Some Other Time". Sally Anne Howles and Robert Alda were also featured in this show. It ran 540 performances, but closed at a loss because of Steve Lawrence's unreliability to show up to performances.

GOLDEN RAINBOW...I don't know quite what to make of this show. It seemed like a Steve and Eydie vanity project! "We've Got Us" and "I Gotta Be Me" were knockout numbers, but there are clinkers too like "Taste" and "Twenty-Four Hours a Day" (Why on Earth THAT number was used for the Tony telecast I don't know!
