I totally echo what Bobby Bubby and chiildren&art said! LaChiusa's is brilliant and far superior to Lippa's version, while neither stick to the poem completely. By the way, I was under the impression that Joseph Moncure March's THE WILD PARTY was public domain hence why two versions came out at the same time, so how could Lippa not have the rights to it Garland Grrrl? (PS: I love the Cher avatar!)

The property is public domain. Anyone can write a show and call it THE WILD PARTY. If I chose to, I could write my own versions of THE WILD PARTY, LES MISERABLES, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, LITTLE WOMEN, JANE EYRE, DOCTOR JECKYLL & MR. HYDE, THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL, et cetera et ecetera. These are all public domain.

I still prefer the Lippa, who gives all the other characters as much focus as they should have. The focus and the points of the poem are still made primarily with the three main characters. Also, in the LaChuisa, when each of the characters leave got kind of tiresome for me. I do like the LaChuisa but it didn't move me like the Lippa did.

Yes, we do need a third vampire musical.--Little Sally, Gypsy of the Year 2005.

I'm leading more toward Daniel...I think both are great, but I like that Lippa has more of a focus on central characters with just a taste of the others. I think the story is already difficult to follow, and Lippa's version is more clear to me & not all over the place.

I don't really get into the Lippa one... to me, it's just one belted generic song after another without much to offer. And I don't even really think it's an enjoyable score, just kind of boring. But people love it so what do I know? It's all just different tastes. I suppose I'd have to see it on stage with jazz hands.
