Dont forget that the Tornado's costume had a bright white CBS eye smack over her midriff. That little grace note was one of the funniest things in the show.

There was a production in the UK a couple of years ago that *slightly* modified the score to give it more of a 80s-90s feel; they had to, actually -- this was the whitest cast I've ever seen for that show. But it worked, surprisingly well. It was more HEDWIG than Andre DeShields, but it was a hoot to watch.

It all depends on how well the La Jolla production is received. Performances begin at the end of the month. If it gets raves, it'll probably transfer at some point.

If it does transfer, we'll have 5 revivals lined up for the season:

A Chorus Line
Company
Les Miserables
110 in the Shade
The Wiz

I could easily see the Les Mis revival get the shaft Tony nomination-wise if we were to have five like this.

I live in SD and im seeing the La Jolla Playhouse production.

My friend works there and saw a technical rehersal and said it was AMAZING.

Apparently there is some broadway speculation going on for it with everyone there, too.

Well, im off to see The Wiz on the 29th, and i will tell you guys how it is.

PS. As far as tornadoes go thay are simylation one right through the audience.

I am excited for The Wiz at La Jolla! I'll be driving with a friend of mine from SD from Tucson there so that we can see it. Very excited!!!

I could also see ACL getting the shaft based on recent reviews.

But I mean, c'mon. COMPANY reimagines. THE WIZ possibly reimagined. What's up with 110?

Holy Crap. IT LOOKS AMAZING!

I saw the Wiz when they did it in Houston a while back (I was so young I don't remember if it was a tour or not)

but i just remember loving it and that i got quite into theater afterwards, though it would take a production of Into the Woods with Leslie Uggums to really do it for me.

I digress...

I would LOVE to see 110 AND The Wiz pan out! How awesome would that be!?

There's a book of Geofrey Holder's art and it contains original costume sketches and pictures. Can't remember what it's called but i'm sure if you google his name something will come up.

A Google search says that the Netherlands production opens on September 10. I oculdnt find anything about a Danish one; does anyone have any more info on that?

It was "Ghetto fabulous" in the best sense of the term! Even the humor was skewed that way.

These pics I posted are of the touring cast, headed by Deborah Malone as Dorothy (seen above).

Gary Q. Lewis was the Scarecrow, later of Broadway's Sophisticated Ladies (and the DVD version too)... and lovely to look at, I might add.

And Annie Jo Edwards was Evilene... and you can see her in a hilarious turn in the movie "Bullets Over Broadway" as Jennifer Tilly's snarky maid Venus.
