See I actually prefer the movie to the book, but its a matter of opinion. I could see why someone who loves the book was disappointed by the film.

I should mention that I didn't care for the movie before I read the book, either. Why doesn't Glinda just tell her to use the bloody shoes in the first place? And why is she fine with saving them from the poppies, but not from the witch? And why do the Tin Man and the Scarecrow stand around calling for help instead of dragging their friends out of the poppy field? And if the Scarecrow has a gun, why doesn't he shoot the monkeys?

Because Glinda is evil
Just kidding. No, I mean I always thought it was because Dorothy had to have the experience that she does and try to figure it out on her own first.
As for the Tin Man and Scarecrow - they dont have a heart or a brain, give them a break! hehe

Has it been mentioned that Margaret Hamilton, the Wicked Witch of the West in the film The Wizard of Oz, appeared in two Broadway musicals? Come Summer and Goldilocks.

She also played Parthy Ann in SHOWBOAT in summer stock. She was an incredibly kind, wonderful lady.
And most peole don't realize it from WIZARD OF OZ, but she was tiny - like five foot one.
