Posted: 12/29/04 at 9:36amI like it a lot (the music, that is). I am seeing it in two weeks in London, very excited. I love Maria Friedman's voice on it, and Michael Crawford sounds very good and funny as well.

Posted: 12/29/04 at 10:02amI love it so much. It is different than what ALW has been doing. It leans more towards Aspects of Love than any other of his shows. I wish I could see it because I can only imagine how they do certain things in the show. Again, I love it A LOT!!!

Posted: 12/29/04 at 10:09amI'd say it's probably the most "mature" of the scores that Andrew Lloyd Webber has written, and one that for me at least I've enjoyed more and more on each repeated listen. Highly recommended!

Posted: 12/29/04 at 11:15amIts a wonderfully haunting score. I usually enjoy a powerful overture like that of Phantom, but WIW's eerie opening sequence sets the mood and tone of the show perfectly. I look forward to studying at RADA in the fall so i can finaly see it.

Looks like I started a good thread:)
You guys hit the nail on the head with how different it is for Webber. I absolutely loved Aspects of Love and so I am sure I will love this one too after I've finally pieced it all together

Posted: 12/29/04 at 6:06pmIf this is the most "mature" of Lloyd Webber's score that may be why it's the first one he's done that's disapointed me. I'm sorry but I just think his talent lies in catchy pop songs and he should just do that. Let Tony Kushner do the mature stuff except please god forbid him from doing another musical. Caroline must die. lol Updated On: 12/29/04 at 06:06 PM

Posted: 12/29/04 at 6:19pmI did not know that there was a recording of this available. Where were you able to find it? I would be really interested in hearing it. I am assuming this is based upon the book The Woman in White, if so has anyone read the book? How well does the show stick with the book?

I would buy it from an independent seller, selling through AMAZON.COM - copies are currently $22. Or, I would go through FOOTLIGHT.COM. Ordering through AMAZON.CO.UK to the States takes forever.
It's a WONDERFUL show. Like "Aspects of Love", I was really disappointed at my first couple listens of "The Woman in White". Now, I think it's Webber's second best show, after "Aspects of Love". If you like "Aspects", you will love "The Woman in White".

I'm not entirely sure Lloyd-Webber can write recitative, though I think he settled into it. The beginning just sounds weird. The "stand-alone" songs are ok, though, but bloody hell Laura has to have a helluva range! They've cast a first soprano, but her lowest note in the show is E below middle C.
I've read the book. It's fabulous! There are some major changes - not all for the better, IMHO.
