That's me! When I was in school, I volunteered & was dreadful. I have enormous respect for ushers who know their job.
Here's an article from the NYT on line about bway & ob volunteer ushers I thought interesting called "Will Work for a View of the Show."

I used to love to usher as a teenager at the Springer Opera House in Columbus, GA.
It was always so much fun if the show was awful to explore the theatre. I sat through some awful stuff though. It would be really fun to do again, but I think I have to prefer to pay and actually be treated like a human by the theatre. Although watching a show from the closed off section behind one of those fake bookshelf doors with two really "cool" fellow ushers was about the highlight of my highschool life. :0)

re: The Worst Usher In Theatre History#3
Posted: 4/20/05 at 1:10pmIt was crazy, just like in the movies on the third floor of our theatre. Bookshelves with a hallway behind them, I guess the shelf was real the wall was fake, but it was crazy and fun. I think it was also dangerous, closed off for a reason, but so be it.
