The most random applause points of shows

I've always thought the cape part was supposed to be somewhat funny. I mean--just a minute before, Elphaba tells Glinda to get on the broom, and Glinda lets out a shocked, "WHAT?!" which always gets the audience. Why not throw a joke in? It seems like the Glindas always make that line a stupid one, "here! put this around you!" Almost in an excited tone...and then the audience sees that she has just made her look even more like the Wicked Witch everyone is familiar with. I'm sure the producers weren't stupid enough to not see that. Who knows though? I could be wrong.

LITP--last February--when there is that incredibly long, awkward pause in Act II created by Margaret, somebody in the audience tried to start a clap...and it didn't work. He clapped by himself for about 2 seconds and stopped. I was giggling very quietly. It was quite funny. Poor person!

You're definitely right, Raspberry...I personally just think it's annoying that people laugh there.

I was really irked when at Les Miz people applauded the barricades unfolding, some of them (my dad included) didn't even clap for the actors at curtain call...

I always hate it when people laugh at "What?" too. But usually, that is the actresses fault because the say that line comedically... I think that part should be more soft and subtle, but then again, there's a lot in WICKED I would tone down, but it doesn't stop me from adoring the show and music...

i know it's probably because it's the first real chance the audience has to applaud, but in Les Miz after the Bishop sings, the audience applauds. it's almost like they're recognizing an amazing job the Bishop does over everyone else who has performed up until this point! everytime i've seen the show, it's happened at that moment. it just feels random.
