Posted: 7/18/06 at 7:39amWhere did you hear about this tour? I haven't seen any casting notices or press releases - is it equity or non equity?

Posted: 7/18/06 at 7:53amIt's going to the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, and that's about all I know about it.

Posted: 7/18/06 at 8:00pmProvidence is another stop on this tour. It seems to me that in 2006-07, LaMancha needs to have at lease a recognized actor in the lead if it hopes to do any substantial business. I would be surprised if the show itself is still a draw, with no known names in the cast.

Posted: 7/18/06 at 8:31pmI also heard something about this tour recently. I'm pretty sure it's non-Equity, and will have little (if anything) to do with the recent Broadway revival.

Posted: 7/20/06 at 11:25pmI havn't heard much about this tour, but it is such a great show and Phoenix is a very respectable touring company that I'm very optimistic.

Posted: 7/20/06 at 11:56pmAll I know is that it is non equity, as there is a one night stop in Shreveport, LA, where I'll be at college.

Yes, it is a non-eq tour from Phoenix Prods., indeed a very good company to work for; I don't think they getting a name for the lead, but if the show is playing alot of one-nighters (as is likely the case) they probably couldn't afford a star.
That's what alot of people don't realize about touring shows: if they play small theatres in small towns, the presenters in these towns can't afford to charge the ticket prices that an Equity show would require. So in order for these small places to get any theatre at all, they have to offer seats that people in these communities can afford. Small towns cannot financially support a big Equity touring show like a Denver or a Chicago can.
That being said, I don't think I know any of the actors in the show, so who knows?

Posted: 7/21/06 at 10:12amBut since it's non-equity, equity stars are not allowed to be in the show...Barry Williams in THE SOUND OF MUSIC non-equity tour comes to mind as someone who had to pay a hefty fine.

Posted: 7/21/06 at 8:01pmI haven't heard about this yet. If it comes near and gets good notices, I'll see it. It's been a long time since I've seen the show...

Peter Flynn's directing career is definitely burgeoning. He's done a lot of concerts and events in NYC, two TheatreworksUSA shows, some regional stuff (including this season's Gypsy at the MUNY), and now this. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get something really big soon.

There is a pic in the brochure at ppac.org if anyone can recognize which production it is from.
