While I was watching my season 2 of 30Rock today, I thought Jane K. would make a fantastic Lilly. Does anyone else think this? If no, who do you think would be a fantastic Lilly?

Lily needs to be a legit operatic soprano. Jane is a belter.

Kristin Chenoweth needs to play Lily before she's too old.

If I was casting for Encores:

Chenoweth as Lily
Marc Kudisch as Oscar Jaffe
Cheyenn Jackson as Bruce Granit
Judy Kaye as Leticia Primrose

The Actors Fund concert a couple of years ago had the perfect cast that could still do it. Marin Mazzie, Douglas Sills and Joanne Worley. For those who never saw this performance live or on the well distributed boot, it was great.

And there is only one L in Lily.

Definitely have to agree with South Fl Marc -- the September 2005 Actor's Fund Benefit Concert casting was sheer perfection and yes... that professionally shot archive DVD (obtained via any bootleg source) is a delicious preservation of that concert staging, which was pretty elaborate.

Yessir... it is Lily Garland (one "L"). re: The next Lilly Garland???

And I have to agree with South Fl Marc and BrodyFosse, the Actors Fund Proudction was beautifully done. This show needs to be revived, and hopefully with many of the cast members from the Actors Fund Production reprising their roles.

Good question - the actors fund concert showed that the show works without completely elaborate sets. Hopefully it will be revived at some point. Considering some boring shows, like Grease, have gone through two revivals, this show is long overdue.

I saw a wonderful performance of it at Goodspeed about ten years ago, and thought it was a hoot. The music is first rate, and it really doesn't need a ten million dollar set, as the Goodspeed production proved admirably.

If it was to be revived would Cheno do it?

She might want to do it, but I really think Marin Mazzie is a better fit. Kristin is more of a cute soprano, while Marin Mazzie just has a quality about her that is more mature. The role of Lily calls for a more mature woman to play the role. Kristin Chenoweth has an incredible operatic voice, but I just don't feel she's right for this particular role.
