Yes. Her role is small but pivotal. Very Lady Macbeth.

I know she's really more of a B movie actress, but what about Parker Posey?

Parker as Tracey? No, I couldn't see that. She is much too sarcastic and spiteful to play Tracey. I love Parker to death, though; she's fantastic in HURLYBURLY, was beyond brilliant in FIFTH OF JULY, and has given some incredible screen performances.

There are performances I've seen from Posey that would lead me to believe she might possibly be quite good in the role (though different from Hepburn). The thing is, Posey comes from a VERY wealthy family and from what I understand her upbringing was not unlike the Lord household (which is one of the reasons her career has been all about stage and independent film -- she doesn't need the money). In certain roles she's shown a certain hauteur and ego and self-possession, she's beautiful, knows comedy and has a certain carriage about her that would lend itself to Tracey (remember her in "Party Girl"?). My only reservation is her natural accent which is tinged with a certain Valley Girl quality -- but then again, she, Paris Hilton and the rest of the current generation of offspring of the wealthy all seem to have that, so maybe it works if you want to contemporize the play a bit. Tracey doesn't have to have that Hepburn Bryn Mawr accent to be effective.

It's a good thought. Not sure if she really has the technique and timing for Phillip Barry, but I'd certainly pay to see her try it out.

A close friend went to school with Parker, and said she was a very stuck up rich girl in high school.

But Posey can also be very stilted in roles that call for a broader brush. Josie and the Pussycats, e.g.

I don't think that stiltedness is her fault in Pussycats. She's very much not alone in looking uncomfortable in that movie. And in Scream 3, where she's playing it equally as broad, she's an absolute hoot.

Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

I've got a ticket to see this play, thanks for sharing the info you got on Ehle, I hadn't heard who was playing Tracy.

Any info on who's playing Macaulay?

Does anyone else think that Amy Adams would be great in this? Imagine the scene where she pretends to be eccentric in front of the reporters..

She could even do a stage version of High Society. They could add some more Cole Porter songs for Tracy.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

How old is Tracey Lord supposed to be?

Isn't Ehle too old?

This thread is over seven years old, so ... yes, Ehle is too old now.

I was about to post a quip about Traci Lords playing Tracy Lord, then found that I had said that seven years ago.

Ehle should be playing Tracy.

AND she should also be playing Nora to Johnny Depp's Nick in the new THIN MAN movie. Why one of the most beautiful, brilliant, sexiest actresses of her generation hasn't become a bigger star long ago is anyone's guess. Maybe now with her stealing CONTAGION away from an all star cast, it will happen.

I am not a Paltrow nay-sayer (I like her as long as she's not playing English women). Anyone who wants to see Paltrow and Ehle together (not sharing screen time on but in the same movie) can watch not only CONTAGION but also Neil LaBute's POSSESSION. Ehle is wonderful in both. In POSSESSION, she's breathtakingly beautiful as well as extraordinary. In contrast, Paltrow is, yet again, trying to convince us she's English.

Whatever happened to that Roundabout reading with Scarlett Johansson, Jon Hamm, and John Krasinski. That would have been amazing.

Ehle's father is an American writer. I don't think she has the British accent in "real life".

Really enjoyed seeing this at the Old Vic in London back in '05. Spacey was terrific and Ehle did a nice job.
