Who do you think?

I obviously haven't studied every Tony winning performance ever needless to say, but at least in recent memory I would think Idina Menzel in Wicked, especially with her performance THAT NIGHT on TV. Terrrrible.
I second that. That performance was horrible.
I third it, not an expert on Tony performances, but I can't even imagine how it could get any worse than that one.

I still don't know why Lansbury won for Sweeney... she was awful.
Cats - 1983
Les Miz - 1987
The Phantom Of The Opera - 1988
Titanic - 1997
As much as I love Idina, her performance on the Tony's was paaaainful
while I loved loved loved THE FULL MONTY and wish it was still running, I hated their Tony performance with "Let It Go"
it lacked energy and I hated the various dialouge, from planted actors, in the Tony audience. Just let them do the damn song.
And, I do like Wicked, but Idina's performance was atrocious.

Oh, please CPD, that is not the worst by far...
If you are judging on the performance ON THE TONYS itself he was terrific...his current replacement doesn't even compare as either and actor or a singer.
however, considering the source, I should just let this one go.
I second TooDarnHot about The Full Monty. I wish they had either picked another song from the show or cut the dialogue. It was hard to hear, made more sense in the context of the show, and took away from what was going on onstage.
Those of you talking about Idina's actual televised performance do know that the awards aren't given based on what the performers do that night, right? The person is asking about Tony-winning performances, not performances AT the Tonys that won, and thankfully Idina's actual in-show performances were nothing like the mess that was on television.

Ya, it wasn't near as bad in the theatre, but it was still pretty terrible. Girl can't really act and can barely sing. I've never heard a live recording that sounded good at all.

Frances de la Tour for HISTORY BOYS. Not really a bad performance, just a terribly easy and boring performance of a terribly easy and boring role. She could have done it in her sleep, and she certainly did the night I sat through it.

It's amazing how things look in hindsight- at the time Idina's win was wildly popular and considered a sure thing going in.

Why don't you look at some of the responses to the question and see what I was referring to before being a smartass?
Oh, snap! How long did you think about that one for?
.... being that you walked right into it, it didn't exactly take much thought.
So, we are not allowed to venture off topic the slightest in a thread? Oh, I forgot, we all voted last week and made you the BWW Message Board dictator. How silly of me.
There's no need to be mean lakezurich, luvtheEmcee made a valid point.
