I don't understand some theater fans now-a-days. Case in point, RENTheads...I am a HUGE RENT fan, HUGE! It's what got me into musical theater in the first place. I have even seen the show 15 times...however, I always come across other RENTfans (either in line or online, whatever) who act as if they themselves own the show and if you're a "newbie" you somehow are inferior to them. It aggravates me to no end. I LOVE bringing new people to the show, I WANT new people to see the show and love it as much as I do because THAT'S what keeps shows going.
Don't get me wrong either, I have met some GREAT people who are RENTheads or whatnot..I even have to give props to Wicked/Idina fans who have been so kind. But to everyone else who has this issue with non-theater people loving the same show as you....let them enjoy it. Yea, they may not know that Adam Pascal was the original Roger, or they may not own the cast recording, but let them have the chance to love the show on their own.
This probably was a pointless thread, but I wanted to vent.

I totally understand what you mean by this, however, I tend to see this more with Wicked fans than anything else...
What bugs me even more than this is the Theatre snobs who thinks widely loved shows such as Wicked or Rent are "beneath" them because they're popular.
But then again, this is theatre we're talking about, people are expected to be bitchy.

My Fair Lady-you come across as much older through your posts!
Anyway, I always tried to tell myself I would never become a Theatre-snob, but it's hard not to be sometimes. But when it comes to seeing yourself as "above" people because of your knowledge is just silly. I personally love meeting people who might not know as much about theatre as I do, it's a chance to teach people about something that makes me happy! Spread the love!
