To JV

Totally disagree with your take on Rotten. Not bad being sophomoric and getting 10 Tony nods in the process. Rather watch something sophomoric than something widely praised but deadly dull

I really like sophomoric things if done well, such as Book of Mormon. For me the word is not a pejorative. But I think Something Rotten is overselling itself a little bit. To me, it's not as original as BOM. For instance, I find sex jokes really funny. But the same one over and over and over again? No. (All the "bottom" jokes.) I have recommended the show to friends who have asked me about it though. It's entertaining enough.

Hated BOM as much as we loved Rotten.

I was at the first preview of Something Rotten.  There was a standing ovation during the "A Musical" number.  I certainly thought plants were responsible for it.
