I came across something interesting and was hoping someone here might have insight.
I recently saw $43 tickets for The Lion King on Theatr listed by someone named “ticket agent Don.” What I’m confused about is how this works on the seller’s end. If the tickets are being resold at face value, what’s the benefit for the person listing them?
I’ve seen other listings (not necessarily on Theatr) where people try to resell tickets above what they paid to make a profit, so I understand the incentive there—even if it’s not always allowed. But in this case, if they’re just selling for what they paid, why go through the trouble? Up until recently, you could earn Audience Rewards points for lottery tickets so I could almost see it if somebody would’ve entered to get points, but if you can’t even do that, I don’t know why people do this
Do ticket agents or brokers enter lotteries themselves? Or is there some other advantage I’m missing (like volume, perks, or something behind the scenes)?
Just genuinely curious how this side of things works. Appreciate any insight!

Plans change all the time even at the very last minute, and this app is a blessing for those who just want their money (or part of it) back and/or don't want the ticket to go to waste.

Sometimes ticket brokers buy blocks and sell most of them on StubHub for a markup, but there’s a pesky one or two they can’t get rid of. They’d rather just sell those back and keep all the profit on the rest than take the loss.
