IMITATION OF LIFE at The Shed (John Legend & Lynn Nottage)

Real ones know that in the TV show Smash, a fictional adaptation of An Imitation of Life was competing with Bombshell at the Tony’s. That version of the show started Anika Noni Rose, was directed by Susan Stroman, and was written by Jeanine Tesori and Tony Kushner.

Happy to see this novel get a proper musical adaptation, I imagine it could be very beautiful if adapted properly.

RSC’s Starry Cherry Orchard

There was an adaptation at The Public just a few months ago. I’m also specifically thinking of the New Group adaptation with Parker Posey a couple years ago. And wasn’t there just a London one with Cate Blanchett rumored to transfer?

RSC’s Starry Cherry Orchard

I feel like there have been lots of Seagulls.

And there was almost the Three Sisters at NYTW with Oscar Isaac / Greta Gerwig / Sam Gold / Clare Barron … but the pandemic stopped that one and after Barbie, Greta is gonna be locked up directing for the next decade.

EVERY BRILLIANT THING Reviews

Hargitay is such a fascinating choice. Before SVU she considered herself a comedic actor and was with The Groundlings. I think this show specifically allows her to show some of those chops we don’t really know her for, while still using her Law & Order work to show an emotional connection to the material.

Jerome at PH

I will be seated at every Dustin Wills directed piece in New York. Friend told me it’s beautiful. Going in a few weeks.

Unsubstantiated Rumor Abour ATG

I swear to god if LiveNation buys these Broadway houses I’m gonna have heart palpitations

Little Island summer programming?

Ah, thanks for the update Kad. Upsetting. For such inexpensive summer programming, it took some big artistic risks and almost had a downtown town feel to it. Hope their one-offs are successful enough that they can bring it back next year in some capacity.

Little Island summer programming?

The warm weather had me thinking about the excellent programming at Little Island the past few summers and I realize we haven’t heard a thing about it. Usually they start performances around now. Has this been cut?

Animal Wisdom at Signature

Left field question here.
Before I saw Oratorio I took an edible and believe it greatly enhanced my experience. I struggle with following narratives after any drinks or puffs because my mind wanders a bit and then I feel I’m missing a part of the experience. Does Animal Wisdom have a plot line / narrative, or is it just vibes à la Oratorio?

Kristin Chenoweth We Appreciate YOU

Every single person I know who saw it said it’s boring. Some of them didn’t even know there was controversy around her. The show’s score was a clunker and the book missed a huge opportunity to say something about wealth and power in the modern era. It has nothing to do with controversy, it’s that star power can’t save a sinking ship.

DARE TO BE STUPID: THE WEIRD AL MUSICAL In Development from Timbers & Beetlejuice Team

Oh my god my 13 year old self is SCREAMING!

The smart way to do this is to make it a parody of the typical self-produced jukebox bio musical, but also actually his life story. His movie “Weird” did this about the classic Oscar-bait bio film, even starring Daniel Radcliffe. And it worked really well.

Meryl Streep considering return to Broadway with Martin Short

It’s Martin Short, of course he’s joking.

BAT OUT OF HELL - Town Hall

Is there still a character named “Tink”?

Pulitzer Prize 2026

If he lives in New York he hasn’t for very long, since he was between Budapest and London for much of the 2010s and early 2020s. The show is also very much about the British royals which is not about American life. Although I do think an extension could be made, especially the narrator / play in play aspect.

idk I just think if it qualifies, it very narrowly does.

Pulitzer Prize 2026

Prince F****t isn’t eligible as the author is Canadian, not American. Liberation was easily my favorite play last year. I agree We Had A World belongs as a finalist as well. I also particularly remember Practice, even if it’s hard to sit thru.

Roundabout 26-27 Season: The Full Monty, The Heart, & More

Wow, a slam dunk of a season. Something to look forward to across the board, even if I think The Full Monty is insanely misogynistic. Always excited to see Dustin Wills directing, and especially excited to see Kara Young in a Dominique Morisseau piece.

Not too long ago I would roll my eyes at most stuff Roundabout produced, but they’ve really been turning things around the past few years and I’m thrilled to see it.

Theatr app?

Sometimes ticket brokers buy blocks and sell most of them on StubHub for a markup, but there’s a pesky one or two they can’t get rid of. They’d rather just sell those back and keep all the profit on the rest than take the loss.

Pink to Host the 2026 Tony Awards

Raise your GLASS!!!!!

Lin-Manuel Miranda to direct film adaptation of OCTET

I am giggling thinking of people watching this on their phones and having an existential crisis
