Roundabout 26-27 Season: The Full Monty, The Heart, & More
 Apr 16 2026, 01:41:29 PM

Wow, a slam dunk of a season. Something to look forward to across the board, even if I think The Full Monty is insanely misogynistic. Always excited to see Dustin Wills directing, and especially excited to see Kara Young in a Dominique Morisseau piece.

Not too long ago I would roll my eyes at most stuff Roundabout produced, but they’ve really been turning things around the past few years and I’m thrilled to see it.

Theatr app?

Sometimes ticket brokers buy blocks and sell most of them on StubHub for a markup, but there’s a pesky one or two they can’t get rid of. They’d rather just sell those back and keep all the profit on the rest than take the loss.

Lin-Manuel Miranda to direct film adaptation of OCTET
 Apr 4 2026, 10:40:38 AM

Making whatever art you want when you’re otherwise not attached to it is vanity now? People produce and sponsor art for any number of reasons, where it’s commercial investment or just that they like the art someone makes. If Miranda has the money to make good art for arts sake, why not?

ugh I should have looked at who I was responding to before I posted

THE BALUSTERS Previews
 Apr 4 2026, 12:05:25 AM

I think the play has a slow start but once it gets going it’s a great ride. There were a few conversations that felt like they here leaning towards “woke culture” satire but it had a purpose and all came together quite nicely in the end. Some jokes had me truly guffawing. Not a groundbreaking work but a great night at the theater.

People tend to post short but honest reviews on the Theatr app.

Alladin, Donica, Pinkins & More Complete ENCORES! THE WILD PARTY Cast
 Mar 20 2026, 11:33:55 PM

Blown away by this production. Just absolutely in love.

I think this show really asks a lot of its audience. It’s too long, it has no intermission, and thematically its songs can be repetitive. I can admit it’s a really challenging piece. But I think the highs are so high and the scope is so ambitious, I’m willing to forgive some of its flaws.  This score is truly one of the most complex scores in all of musical theater. To hear it sung live is

New York Gave These Broadway Shows Millions — And They Flopped Anyway

I mean. What do they expect to do? Have New York State reps come to backers auditions and determine if they want to provide the funding or not? More arts funding is always good.

Plays You Hope Get Revived

Surprised we haven’t seen a Stoppard show since he passed. I’d love to see The Real Thing or Arcadia tackled on Broadway, even though they’re quite popular regionally,

I was pretty pleased with the EP they released last summer. And after seeing Solea in the Florence Gatsby two summers ago, I will gladly see her in anything. I’m excited!

In a Screen-Dazzled World, a Theater Critic Has the Antidote
 Mar 8 2026, 11:08:57 AM

My favorite excerpt that really helps understand Helen’s perspective on reviews:

If I have a philosophy of criticism, it might be the one from that basement: Try to meet the art where it is. There are so many things beyond our control … but somewhere amid all the hubbub, someone is making something, and you need to pay attention. As its best and truest self, criticism is attention, the kind that might extend over decades or ce

Kad you really hit the nail on the head. Grey Hensen is fantastic, and I was laughing a lot but I’m not really sure what it all adds up to. The humor felt like an 30 Rock episode but the stakes were totally nonexistent. I’ll also add that any time there was some sort of morality baked into the show, it was just hammered over our heads. Without grounded characters it can’t come naturally, it has to be served to us on a platter. The tone felt similar to Big Gay Jambo
