Still can’t believe they changed the title from Gun and Powder, which would catch my eye so much more on a marquis than a generic “wanted” ad where it’s not even clear if that’s the title of a show or just an ad for something else

They had a 2-for-1 deal at the box office today which had a lot of rules that were not advertised. Regardless I was able to get a couple of center mezz seats for about $60 a pop. Now let’s just hope that rumor about the investor pulling out isn’t true so I get to actually see it.
DEGENERATES at Playwrights Horizons
Really enjoyed this. Else Went has a nack for taking plot lines that could border on melodrama and makes them feel very real and lived in and emotional. I felt similarly about Initiative. It’s reflecting a real undercurrent that is affecting so many young men and women these days, and treating it with respect and reverence and weight.

Oh I LOVED this downtown. Wasn’t expecting this at all, but I’m so happy it’s getting a wider audience. It plays with your mind about how the monsters really are just men and women like you and me.

Zachary Noah Piser and Hannah Kevitt are both doing excellent work at the Belasco. Went tonight and the show really brought me to tears. Happy to see it’s still in great shape.

IMITATION OF LIFE at The Shed (John Legend & Lynn Nottage)
Real ones know that in the TV show Smash, a fictional adaptation of An Imitation of Life was competing with Bombshell at the Tony’s. That version of the show started Anika Noni Rose, was directed by Susan Stroman, and was written by Jeanine Tesori and Tony Kushner. Happy to see this novel get a proper musical adaptation, I imagine it could be very beautiful if adapted properly.

There was an adaptation at The Public just a few months ago. I’m also specifically thinking of the New Group adaptation with Parker Posey a couple years ago. And wasn’t there just a London one with Cate Blanchett rumored to transfer?

Hargitay is such a fascinating choice. Before SVU she considered herself a comedic actor and was with The Groundlings. I think this show specifically allows her to show some of those chops we don’t really know her for, while still using her Law & Order work to show an emotional connection to the material.
