Theatre Book Stores Down Town

Does anyone know of any? I'm talking Samuel French stocked and everything. You what I mean I've heard of a few, but they slip my mind now.

I'm having a tiny emergency and need to get a script before Monday. If anyone could help please throw out a place or two, hopefully one you can get to by CTA.

Growing up in New York and going to the store across from the Majestic (where they have a gazillion scripts and all the theater memorabilia you could want), I was pretty disappointed when I moved to Chicago last year and found out that the famed Soliloquy Bookstore was basically like, an issue of PerformInk and a few copies of Death of a Salesman, lol.

The other night I was riding in the bus by Soliloquy and saw a big "STORE FOR RENT" sign. Which would seem to me that they've gone out of business.

Old-Timers will remember not only Act One on Lincoln, But Scenes on Clark, which also was a coffee house put out of business by a Starbucks opening a half-block away. You could sit at tables and read, eat, work with collaborators. It was also a fine place to meet after shows to wind down for both audience and actors.

Barbara's Bookstore on Broadway also had a great selection of scripts - some things they carried there I've seen nowhere else - British and other foreign plays.

Downtown had a Kroch's & Brentanos and a B. Dalton's that were both known for their nice selection of scripts.

Gone . . . gone . . . gone.
