In the Spring I am thinking of hitting New York to see the new shows, then would like to see something in California, I am aware of the main theatres in Los Angeles (Pantanges and Ahmanson) and San Francisco (Golden Gate, Curran and the Orpheum), but what other theatres are worth checking out please?
In SF, American Conservatory Theatre, SF Playhouse, Ray of Light Theatre, and New Conservatory Theatre. You may also find something interesting at TheatreWorks in the South Bay (Palo Alto/Mountain View).
In the SF Bay Area, the big two other companies are ACT (American Conservatory Theatre) in SF and Berkeley Rep. (Right near the downtown Berkeley BART station).
Our favorite companies in SF are San Francisco Playhouse (they have a full season - "She Loves Me" is their current offering) and Ray of Light Theatre (They typically do 2 shows per season, the only one announced for next year thus far is "Silence!" starting at the end of January).
For discounts, I think all of them use Goldstar and TodayTix.
...also, note that the Curran is no longer part of SHN (Orpheum, Golden Gate) so offerings will be at the Curran website. (They reopen after an extensive remodel in January with "Fun Home" )
