Hi there! Thought I'd give this a try. I know many recording artists / pop music stars have crossed over to do Broadway. Has there been, say within the last 20 years, anyone who came from Broadway that has had a "hit" on the pop charts? I know way back when ('50's, 60's), there were some huge Broadway stars with radio hits. I remember Richard Harris's "McArther Park". I can't think of any more at the moment. I know there were others. Are there any recent examples? If not, why not? What do you think changed?

Call the understudy / I can't go on tonight / I'm drinking with my buddy / I'm getting good and tight / Before they raise the curtain I'll be higher than a kite / So call the understudy I can't go on tonight

Why does it matter if one of the Jonas Brothers was in theater before that? I mean, before that came along, they probably didn't have an obnoxious preteen fanbase. It's probably the creation of the band that started that.

BRILLIANT. And how do you feel about the Holocaust? 9/11? Do you rewrite your personal perception of history EVERY time something happens that you don't like, or is Nick Jonas worse than Hitler? XD

Good one Weez.

I can't see Bette Midler's name on that list without thinking of that Seinfeld episode. The one where she was in the musical Rochelle, Rochelle. The story about a young girl's journey from Milan to Minsk.

Linda Eder? Technically she was on the charts with "You Are My Home" pre-Broadway, but she's had many singles/pop CDs as well?

Yup. Meat Loaf has appeared on Broadway in: ROCKABYE HAMLET (original Broadway cast), THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW (original Broadway cast) and HAIR (replacement).

Jesse McCartney always says he grew up on Broadway, but I think he actually just did a national tour of "The King and I" and "A Christmas Carol" with Roger Daltrey... neither technically on Broadway. LOVE him, though.
