Did anyone see Theatre Talk on PBS last night? More importantly, did ANYONE understand a word David Leveaux said?
There is a show called Theater Talk on PBS?? Jeez, how did I miss this??
Yeah, I've seen it advertised in Playbills, but I've never seen it. Hate to stray from the question at hand, but how is it? What kind of things are on it?
I understood what he was syaing ..but I was very bored by the whole conversation...I didn't even like the "Fiddler" revival..and I don't think Alfred Molina is a very strong singer
For anyone who doesn't know about Theatre Talk, its on Channel 13
(PBS) at Midnight on Fridays ... Its hosted by Micahel Riedel of The New York Post...sometimes its good..sometimes its bad...depends on who they guests are..
I saw an advertisement on NY1 last night that Kristen C. is going to be on Monday night on One On One. Looks interesting.

It's a local production by the NYC PBS station only. No other PBS stations in the country air it. But if you live in NYC, yeh, how DID you miss this?
Darnit, I can't get it!!! The midwest sucks!! What is NY1?? Probably just in New York too, huh?? jeez....
Theater Talk can sometimes be very interesting. I saw episodes about Hairspray, which was great because they showed tiny clips and Marc Shaiman played the piano and sang. Little Shop was another great one because Alan Menken played and sang cut songs from the show, and Nine was a nice episode, too, because Banderas and Rivera talked about their characters- I had a better understanding of the show after this.
I always forget to watch Theatre Talk. I remember during the day on Fridays, and then the evening comes and goes and I have missed it yet again. At least On Stage repeats a bunch of times in case I miss it. Thanks for the heads up about Kristin. :)

So that's Micahel Riedel of The New York Post? I started watching it from time to time last year, and he just turns me off! What a very cold person. And he it seems he has to get the last word every time. Also, very disrespectful to his co-host, what's-her-name.
And they take this guy seriously? He looks like he just graduated college!
Susan Haskins and Susan is a sweetie.
I love her. They never let her speak it pisses me off.
Susan is also the Producer!

"No other PBS stations in the country air it."
Yeah they do. As they say, "check local listings for times and stations."
That is, if you can tolerate the sniveling little host. Those who can, play Niles Crane. Those who can't, end up like that. Yeccccccccccccch.
No offense to Riedel but he hates everything.
I wish Susan would host the show with Michael Musto.
That would be a show.
Don't come down on me because i think Musto is talented he would be the best co host with Susan.
The only show Reidel seemed to like was Retreat from Moscow.
I wish i knew another show he was positive about.
I can't wait to hear what he thinks of Drowning Crow.
Ha ha.

While you're at it Corine, why don't you ask Riedel the next time you see him what he thinks of your beloved Millie?
I have never met him but i have met Susan.
I do however find him funny i just wished he liked more shows.
You can't hate everything.

Just curious, who does he like on broadway?
He loved RETREAT FROM MOSCOW.
He also liked Movin' Out and the Little Shop revival.
I do think Reidel has a lot of power. Everyone has different opinions but i really enjoyed Bernadette as Rose.

Not even Michael believes he has any power.
Really Jack? I think he has major power.

"I hope that it comes across in my columns that I don’t take any of the stuff too seriously, and I don’t take myself very seriously. I often make fun of myself in the columns, and I often print letters from people who are attacking me. I don’t think that I’m the final judge or arbiter of anything, or that I’m infallible, or some sort of theater God sitting there handing out pronouncements about what shows should run or should not run. I want to be playful, and cheeky, and fun and mischievous and diabolical, and I like it when people give it right back to me. "
"I’m not a critic, and I wouldn’t be good as a critic. I’m not a good enough writer to be a critic either and I don’t have the intellect to be a critic. "
and most importantly..
"I think that people make more of it in their minds, and get caught up in it and make more of it than it is. I’m guilty of the same thing – I’ll go online and I’ll read what they are saying about my column and I’ll think oh my God, everyone’s reading it but it’s just two people that are reading you – that’s it. I’m realistic, no one’s picking up the New York Post to read me; they pick up the Post to see how the Yankees did last night. That’s the reality of it – that we live in a very small world that very few people care about."

I don't read the NY Post so I missed his colunm on Gypsy w/ Bernadette Perts. What did he say about her? And he doesn't like the revival? Or just Bernadete Peters?

I will tell you this much he is one of the most hated men attached with nY theatre, because he isnt a critic. But he writes about shows and his positive spin or negative spin can effect a show.
