Since this show is no longer the Roundabout's...it won't be at a Studio 54. Does anyone have any ideas as to what theatre this might play at? Since this is a scaled down production I would think it would have to be a slightly smaller theatre so the audience can appreciate it. My idea is the Belasco theatre. I think it's absolutely perfect. The timing is great. "Caesar" ends in June and "Sweeney" is set to begin previews in September. During that time they can perform the necessary renovations that are needed for the show, and it can start in Sept. The theatre is absolutely perfect for this show. It's so dark and gothic inside. I LOVE the stained glass lamps that span the ceiling. "Sweeney" in the Belasco would be amazing. It would be so eerie, I think it's perfect. Any thoughts?

The Booth would be perfect. Probably even the Helen Hayes although the producers might want something bigger than the Hayes.

I think the Belasco physically is perfect. The show might benefit from being in a more visible location -- in which case I'd hope for The Music Box or the Helen Hays.
It has been suggested, however, that the show might end up at the Eugene O'Neil.

Posted: 4/5/05 at 4:38pmWill GV be out in time? I mean. I don't expect it to last until winter but, with a boost in summer sales it should get, it could last thru September...not giving Todd enough time to move in. I do think that the Belasco is in an unfortunate location...but I don't think it will have that great an affect on TODD. I'm pulling for TODD at the Belasco.

I believe that GOOD VIBRATIONS is on sale through September 4. I don't think it will last much longer than that.
JULIUS CAESAR has the Belasco until June 12. DAME EDNA is at the Music Box through June 4. I doubt JACKIE MASON will back it through summer.
In my opinion, any of these theatres would do.

Posted: 4/5/05 at 6:28pmThe Shubert Organization already opened the lower boxes in the Belasco for Julius Caesar. During Marc Antony's funeral oration, some of the actors watch the action from the boxes and they set up a pole for them climb down and enter the stage from the stage right box.

Dont like Sweeney? I Friggin LOVE Sweeney. However this Production sounds so wrtetched to me. SO BEYOND WRETCHED. I get mad when thinking about how they are doing this to such a masterpiece of a piece.
*SIGH*

Yes, a theatre like the Booth would be great, however I would expect "The Pillowman" to probably be around for at least a little while.
I think the Brooks Atkinson could work for Sweeney Todd -- its a good size. Except April-September is a long time for that theatre to be dark after Democracy closes...
