Hi there,

I am coming to New York in July and I will be seeing shows with a focus on 'Theatre for Young People' as a part of my research for a Masters degree.

Currently, the plan is:

Monday PM: Disney's Newsies
Tuesday PM: Disney's Aladdin
Wednesday AM: Wicked
Wednesday PM: Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella
Thursday PM: Disney's The Lion King
Friday PM: Matilda
Saturday AM: The Fantasticks
Saturday PM: Les Miserables

Are there any other shows you have heard of that are coming in July (such as Off-Broadway's Freckleface Strawberry and Pinkalicious in the past) that you could suggest and/or any Children's Theater companies that you recommend?

Many thanks in advance. I love everyone's passion for Theatre on this site!

What age are you going for? Les Mis and The Fantasticks might be good for teenagers, but not young kids.

TheatreworksUSA is a children's theatre company. Most of their shows tour outside NY, but every summer they do a show off-Broadway for free. This summer is a new musical based on Percy Jackson and the Olympians, THE LIGHTNING THIEF.

Honestly, I want to take my nephew to Rocky, but he acts a lot older than his age (eight) and is sports obsessed, so I'm not sure if that helps!

Thank you so much Yero my Hero, that sounds amazing…I will definitely have a look into it, thanks for the info.!

I am focussing more at a younger audience of middle school students and upper-elementary aged students but have also included a few popular High School focused shows to have a bigger range for my research.

Many thanks again!
