I think it's wonderful that there are all these Best of 2006 lists coming out, but I really don't like the fact that some papers, magazines, websites, etc., have to ruin it with a Worst of list. Having been a cast member of one of the "worst," it makes me upset, as it's a catch all, and the label is given without any thought for multitudinous creative types who were involved in such projects.
MANY many people liked HIGH FIDELITY
MANY MANY people liked The Threepenny Opera (that's why it was extended 3 weeks and a few petitions were made for a cast recording)
I respectfull suggest that it is time for authors of such editorial articles as "Best of" lists tokeep in mind that one person's dislike for a piece of art does not indicate that it is 'bad' art. It's frightening how easily a few nay-sayers can ruin the reputation of a show, a director, a designer, an actor, etc., just by publically stating an opinion (with or without having seen the work of said individuals).
Perhaps I am biased, but I have witnessed the way media can ruin a project (filmic, theatrical, recorded, etc.) before it is in the hands of the public.
This type of savage criticism, isn't criticism at all, but a small attempt to cater to our sense of low-brow humor...

I've been doing my "Best of" lists for a few years now and I've never included a "Worst" list. It just seems gratuitous to slam a show that's already taken its critical licks (usually) and probably closed at that point. Bad shows -- if they were truly bad -- are best forgotten (unless, of course, you have a show like IN MY LIFE that was so entertainingly "bad" that you actually ended up enjoying the experience
).
To me, the end of the year is a time to celebrate the memorable moments of the previous year before moving on to the good things yet to come.

I will after the New Year -- there are still one or two things I may try to see before the year is up.

I know you liked The Big Voice from a few years ago Margo. Go see it again! It's better than before!

My best would be:
1. Grey Gardens
2. Drowsy Chaperone
3. The Threepenny Opera
4. High Fidelity
5. Company
I don't have a top 5 worst, but Wedding Singer and The Little Dog Laughed were the first two times I actually left a theater thinking "man, I wasted my money", no hesitation.
