This is Broadway gold.
A fantastic video that shows They're Playing Our Song stars Lucie Arnaz and Robert Klein performing the title song in 1979 and in 2010...side by side.

I can't believe Parker and Broderick passed on this. It would have been a good night out.
Love the show, Marvin & Carol[old friends---not] esp.Carol Bayer Sager in concert--what an era for beautiful tuneful music.
Don't know Mr Klein but did he always sing out of the side of his mouth?--most distracting and unattractive.
Would love to have seen Matthew Broderick as long as his wife wasn't in it.

I'm pretty sure Klein's side of the mouth singing(which he only does on sustained notes) was for comic effect. Of course, the filming of live theater magnifies everything.

Thanks for sharing this. I never saw it. I'd love the show when it came out. I didn't get to see it though until it went on tour. Lucie Co-starred with her husband Laurence Luckinbill. She sang it in her concert in P-town last year.
I got to talk to her after seeing her in Pippin. What a nice lady.
Ah, I remember seeing this at the Imperial on a warm Saturday afternoon in June. I also remember how these two stars infamously didn't get along during the run, and some nights spoke for the first time when they got on stage. They made peace, but who else recalls Klein on the Merv Griffin show telling Merv Arnaz didn't like him -- "even though she married a guy who looks like me" (Lawrence Luckinbill).
I ask this out of total ignorance: Was Robert Klein a big star for this show? Seems like his fame peaked in the 70s (and still nowadays people like Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert revere him). I was surprised to see this ran more than 1,000 performances.
