Do you think people will be turned away from Wicked seeing someone not as famous as Idina is there? I don't think so but I feel like people are going to see Wicked because of Idina alot of the time.
uh-oh...its exactly what someone said before...the threads are coming back because she's almost done...
eek.
PS Shoshana will be FINE.

Oh I did a search and didn't see it. Sorry. I know Shoshana will be amazing and I know she is amazing in the role .It's just other people who might not.
No one cares who's playing the role... *Wicked* is the star of Wicked. And again, no one knows or thinks of Menzel as "really famous" out in the real world and even if you want to argue that point, there's no denying that she wasn't anyones' idea of a star when the show first opened, so what difference does it make who's in the role? I'll say this again, it was the ROLE that won the Tony, not the actress. It would have likely gone to any female that was originally cast in the role, unless...Reidel hadn't gone after Murphy as vehemently as he did. Updated On: 12/25/04 at 09:38 AM

Yes, and can that be the end of that?
Anyways-I heard Shoshanna singing the wizard and I live on Broadway's Best on Sirius..and I was like about to cry...I think she'll be good!

al, well i think it is part the character of Elphaba and part idina that won the tony - i mean, KC would not have won a Tony if she played Elphaba....
i think we should just wait until jan 25 (two weeks after she takes over) before deciding if she sux...or not...
People said this when Kristin left, that people would stop coming because she wasn't in it. Most people won't know that she left until they get to the theatre, then there really isn't anything that could be done, except walking out. And who is going to leave after shelling out $100?
I doubt that the crowd that is now coming to Wicked knows who Idina Menzel is...One would assume everyone knows who she is, but the average audience attended Wicked doesn't care who is in it. They care that it is the hardest show to get tickets for, and they got a ticket. Wicked is the status show of the moment. Watch Broadway: The Golden Age, Sondheim says something brilliant about modern audiences and "hot tickets".

I saw Idina in Wicked in August. She was AMAZING!! She deserved the tony 100%! I saw Wicked again in December because I wanted to see Idina as Elphaba once more before she left the show. Unfortunately, she wasn't there that night. Shoshana played Elphaba. She was awesome too. I was very disappointed & very sceptical at first but by the time she finished singing "the wizard and I" I was amazed. I enjoyed the rest of the show just as much as the first time I saw it. Shoshana will continue to be great once she takes over the roll for good. No offense to Idina. I still love her!
The first word that came to mind when I looked at the title of this thread was "DUH!"
Shoshana rocks. Enough said.
I've seen Idina(as well as complete OBC except Joel Grey) and I will be seeing Shosh(as well as replacement cast) on January 12th.
I will give a nice review.

1. People have already bought tickets for after January 9th.
2. People who go see Wicked, for Idina, just won't go I guess kind of like KC.
..but I am an Idina Menzel fanatic, LOL, and I have tickets for next week but I also have tickets for March when she won't be there. It's because I love Wicked though- makes sense?

ya,
idina's my favorite actress (back from her Rent days).
i also like wicked.
i'd see it again. actually, once the original cast is gone, and wicked loses fame (whenever that may be), there will be discount codes and all!
Well, let's put it this way. My staff and I purchased tix to see Wicked for our district manager. When I went to the box office I said please give me a pair of tix you have for the first available Fri, Sat, or Sun performance - any seats, any price. We couldn't get tix till June! Shoshana and Wicked will both be fine.

Um I don't think Idina was too well-known before Wicked. At least not as well known now. People went to see Chenoweth and then realized that there was a little green girl in there who could yell her brains out while flying in the air. Shoshana is MORE than capable of holding up Idina's "legacy," mainly because she is ridiculously amazingly talented.
People are amazed by Shoshana, but I don't see it. I've heard her sing the songs, not really that impressed...

Oh please, most people who see Wicked aren't going to care that Idina is gone. They are just going to care that someone plays the role extremely good and can hit those high notes. And from what everyone else says Shoshana can do both, so she will be fine.

Okay, Idina wasnt really famous before Wicked I'll give you that, but I think a fair amount of people knew her from Rent. I have to say, I just went to see the show this past week in large part because I wanted to see Idina. But I don't think Shoshana will have any problem with the part, and I don't think that people are going to stop going because Idina leaves.
and most people don't even care that they're seeing Wicked at all. They care that they got tickets to the hard to get show.

Yeah, the random person in Louisiana who is travelling to New York for the first time is just going to want tickets to "that show with the wizard of oz" and hasn't heard of Idina Menzel.
