Well, as a very devoted Sutton fan, I'm not going to be ashamed of gushing over her appropriately. I know I'm going to love Little Women insanely. I could, very possibly, go all fangirl on Sutton.

I know she won a Tony but so did Marissa Jaret Winokur and she also sings through her nose horribly and I just cannot stand that sound. I think Sutton is talented but why do so many Broadway singers like that nazal tone? I think it gets so boring. I know Winokur sings that way cause she doesn't know how to sing and thats all she can do but Sutton at least sounds trained and should do non-nazal tone. hmm

Well, Pj, no one's invaded on our thread here yet telling us to shut up, so that's a plus. As you said, it's probable inevitable though. It's frustrating when people are excessive with the praise for a truly talented performer and he or she becomes a bit of a joke.

bronxbound, although I admit, no matter how much i love her, that marissa sings through her nose as well, but don't you agree that that really added to her character in Hairspray?

I know what you mean. It's only harder for me because I sort of know how much better Katy Grenfell was in that part and how she was next in line for the part after Winokur. I think Winokur sings so hard thourgh her nose that its an unpleasant sound esspecially in the Baltimore reprise. I think theres a way to sound young but have a nice nutural tone as well. This new girl Cary Jibson? I think pulls that off well.

hmm perhaps. Did you see Marissa in "Beautiful Girl"? She was singing a lot less through her nose, and it was actually very pretty-sounding.

No I have not seen her live. only the intro to the website and it sounded anoying. I do not know what beautiful girl is.

Beautiful Girl is this ABC movie that Marissa starred in. I acutally liked it and she sounded great in it.

Trust me. Those Little Women snippets do not sound ANYTHING like the actual show. Her voice is great in the show and you should see it. I think you will enjoy it and possibly change your opinion.

I have never, ever detected a nasal quality to Sutton's voice. I think that's actually one of the things I adore about her, because I find her voice so refreshing.

I just have to say again how I don't like Broadway voices that sound "Broadway." lol I did hear her at the Broadway concert in Sept and thought she sounded the same.
