Thoroughly Modern Millie

Hi All:

I have been called back for "Thoroughly Modern Millie" and was wondering if someone could tell me what this show is about?

I am a belter and also a legit soprano. I am a strong dancer and enjoy acting. What female roles are there for a girl that looks in her early 20's with these abilities? which roles are better than the others? Is Millie an ingenue or a comic role? etc....

I'd say it's pretty comedic.

In short, Millie is from the midwest, and she travels to NYC with huge dreams -- she wants to get a great job, then marry her boss and become rich. She goes and instantly "modernizes" herself and her look, and gets a room to stay in, but it turns out that the woman running the place is actually trying to ship her young, female tennants off to "work" in Southeast Asia. Millie goes on an interview and gets a job as a stenographer, planning to make her boss fall in love with her, but she meets another guy called Jimmy. She initially thinks Jimmy's a bit of an ass, but eventually comes to like him -- the rest of the story is very much their love story. The thing with Millie is that she's pretty quirky, so you have room to make it really fun.

I don't want to type out the rest, because there are a few spoilers... and I don't know if you want those. If you do, I will.

It's based on the Movie of the same name, and while some of the more minor characters are different its a good place to get a base of what the musical is about.

You could probably get away with Dorothy Brown, any of "the girls" in Hotel Pricilla.

Millie, according to the show is 29 years old. But I believe millie to be quite a comic role. She reminds me A LOT of Lucy (of I Love Lucy).
