"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel
Hmm... I saw this Friday night and was thoroughly disappointed... The acting in most cases was very good minus Jimmy who had a tremendous voice... and he's about the only one... Alex had a very lackluster performance, acting well until she had to sing and then kind of just... not caring about the character anymore, only the notes... and my gosh, her voice made me want to rip my ears off... As did Trevor's... terrible, terrible... The characters worth seeing the show? Mrs. Meers and the two Asian men... I hate that I don't know the names of the characters... They were terrific... everyone else... Far from measured up...
this is the non-eq tour and i thought, when i saw it a couple of months ago, that it was on par with the bway version and the first tour i saw a couple of years ago. i brought someone who had only listened to the CD and he left with a giant grin spread across his face humming the title song.
Don't f*ck with me fellas. This ain't my first time at the rodeo.
brdwaybaby- I completely agree with you 100% I was soo disappointed when I saw it. Alex Ellis was boring and didn't bring any originality to the role. Her voice was really annoying at times and her "Gimme Gimme" was pretty weak. Adam Zelasko was all right. He had a nice voice, but nothing special. I really liked Mrs. Meers and the 2 asian men (I also forget their names) and I loved Kriste Belt as Muzzy. I was skeptical at first seeing a white girl play Muzzy, but I think she pulled it off =) The one thing that bothered me the most was all of the choreography was changed, all of it! The title song was boring to sit through with the new choreography. "The Speed Test" lost all of its energy because the desks weren't mobile, again the choreography was changed cuz of that, and they slowed the song down cuz Trevor couldn't sing that fast. They also left out Millie's fall at the desk, when she and Trevor are talking about Tom Sawyer and she does that fall, a great moment in the show which was left out. Also, I thought the staging was just awful. There wasn't a whole lot of movement around the stage, maybe it was just me. During "How the Other Half Lives" Millie and Dorothy were just sitting next to each other the entire song! So overall, in my opinion, not a great performance. It didn't help that the theatre sucked ass. The mics kept going in and out and there was like an echo coming from one of the speakers which was really annoying.
Oh... see, I've never seen it before, so I didn't even have anything to compare it to... And a comment I heard from a lot of people was that the pace was horrible... that probably has a lot to do with what you said, losing the energy in the songs...

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...
