Thought on Footloose

I recently ended a three week run of this show and I was wondering what people thought of it when they saw it on broadway. I hear it was pretty bad, but I just have to think that with such an upbeat show, with a good message that it would have some sort of following.

I saw it... it was pretty bad. Bad, but fun. I guess what I mean to say was that it wasn't really a great production, but it's a fun story with upbeat music, to it was difficult to really dislike it. It's interesting, too... I was looking through my playbills a while ago, and it's funny to see who was in the ensemble. I saw Hunter Foster in Footloose... never would've known!

yea that is what I thought, I just never knew and Jennifer Laura Thompson was Ariel if i am not mistaken. Very interesting, because from listening to Footloose you would never think she could sing the part of Glinda.

I never saw it on Broadway only in regional theatres. While I love it, the only reason to see the show are the songs and dancing. In my opinion, the script is rancid, and the serious scenes with Shaw are some of the worst ever written.

Yup, JLT was in it... I think I saw her, too. And I think I saw Jeremy Kushnier as Ren. He was really good.

I just saw it the other day at Plays in the Park in Edison, NJ and while the costumes and set were terrible, I liked it!

The cast (okay some of them) were very talented and I couldn't help but like the story.

some of the people in my cast went to another production and picture this...Ren played by a skinny asian kid who couldn't dance. yup..we were about to crack up.

Just because that's funny, I'd pay to see it. I saw a regional production of it in Westchester, NY a few months ago... actually not too bad (relatively speaking, lol). It was pretty similar to the Broadway version. Anyway, Ren was played by this guy who's in Dracula now... I can't remember his name, though. (Shonn Wiley, maybe?) He was AWESOME! He did the workshop for Never Gonna Dance, too. He was great.

yea we we laughing so loud in portions, that the first thing I said at intermission was that we were all going to hell. lol. Man even the choreography was horrible, and as far as singing goes, it was hardly ever on key. Totally worth the $8 for a good laugh

Hawkeye, are you taling about the production that starred Enrico Rodriguez (a skinny asian guy? LOL)

Bad show.. pretty damn good cast...... Joe Machota, Tom Plotkin, Matt Morrison, Jen Laura Thompson, Ainka Noni Rose, Jenn Gambatese, Kush, Dee Hoty........

No this was just a local community production, and although I didn't think it would be great, I never thought it could be that bad.

I believe he was in the National Tour, but might have moved up to the Broadway production at one point.

Footloose just doesn't do it for me. I saw a bad community theatre production of it a few years ago and it has ruined the show for me ever since.

I saw a school summer production of it. There were a few good songs, mostly the ones sung by the girls. Overall, it wasn't that great of a show. Most of the songs were boring, especially the ones sung by Shaw. And there was one sung by the ensemble that took place in the school...there was a line sung by a police officer...I remember that song being boring.

Shaw's songs do not have to be boring, it just depends on the level of emotion that a given actor can put into it. Our shaw did an amazing job, good ole Don got people crying every night during "I Confess"

I saw it...3 times on Broadway. It wasn't a place you'd go for spiritual enlightenment or anything but it was a lot of fun. I don't have anything bad to say about it and like everyone said before me, the cast was phenomenal.

I really agree with you Hawkeyemania. I saw Footloose done at Wichita last summer and the man who played Shaw was amazing. He put so much emotion into it and "I Confess" is now my favorite song in the show!

Damn, I would have really liked to see it, I really enjoy the cast recording but it would be fun to see how the versions i have seen compare with the broadway version.
