Thoughts: "Repo: The Genetic Opera" on Broadway? — Page 2

I love this musical and still wish it would be produced off-bway. I listen to the soundtrack of the film pretty often and Legal Assassin is my ringtone.
"Marni, I need you now.
Look what I've become.
The nightmare that she should fear
Is the father you left alo~ne!"

I may change it to Graverobber's:
"And it's my job, to steal and rob...
Gra~ves!"

Though I had trouble with the cartoonishness of the film, I loved most of it. Brightman's mumbling (I had to look up the lyrics) and Hilton's acting were the worst parts.

Musically, I love the opera/rock mix and some of the melodies are lovely. The lyrics are laughable sometimes, yes. The rest of the voices were great, imo...especially Head's and Terrance Zdunich's.

Isn't the deluxe edition the $10 download on repo-opera.com ? If so, then for ten dollars, I'm guessing its worth the price...

I think for it to go to back to stage it would need a bit of work- dare I say some toning down as some of the lyrics in Mark it Up probably wont go over very well- but it'd be nice. The movie isn't even showing in NYC though to my knowledge...even for its March 19th pissing match vs Repo Men, you'd have to go to Jersey to experience it in a movie theatre with a shadowcast performance, which sucks. I read some people tried to get Village East Cinemas to pick it up but they didn't bite.

Sorry for the late reply Yero, I havent been checking BWW as often as I used to. I know its not plagiarism, but I do think the situation is suspect at best. Repo Opera was pitched to Universal and they passed, then two years later come out with a similarly themed movie. There is also rumors of the Repo Men auther seeing Repo Opera in an early incarnation in 2001. Something doesn't have to be illegal for someone to feel like theyve been screwed. Unfortunately for the Repo Opera guys their limited release and tightned budget was due to a change in management at Lionsgate, so not only did the movie not get the attention they wanted, but now another company atleast appears to have taken their idea and ran with it to a much larger audience. Its like the fates aligned and not in a good way for them. And theres more to the story its so convoluted, with next door editing rooms and both movies claiming a ten year plus gestation: one from book to movie, the other from performance piece to movie. I would probably love Repo Men, I adore Liev Shrieber and Jude Law, but I'm not sure if I can bring myself to financially support it by seeing it in theatres if Im unsure about its integrity. Im an artist so I feel their pain. I do think the reviews that come out today can probably increase the profile of Repo Opera if they mention, as I've already seen, how Repo Men seems like a derivative of several movies- Repo Opera especially, which would be some good coming out of it. The Huffington Post has unfortunately made the Repo Opera fans out to be childish in their efforts to champion their beloved musical, which does not help anyone.
