Paris Hilton is headed to Broadway! The hotel heirhead wants to take her new horror flick, “Repo: The Genetic Opera,” to the Great White Way. She claims she’s been offered Broadway roles before and turned them down, but she would consider a part in a “Repo” musical. “If they did Repo on stage, I’d do it, because I really believe in it and I love it. But I wouldn’t do anything else,” Hilton told reporters.

I have not seen this nor do I intend to see it. I am just wondering.

It would never happen... it played a few musical festivals years ago, and I've heard the movie is great (actually going to see it in a few hours) but it would fail miserably on Broadway.

I haven't seen the movie yet, and I've only seen a couple of clips from the various stage versions. But as of now I wouldn't be opposed to it. It would more than likely need to be reworked. I know there were things about the stage clips I saw that weren't so great, but I think it it was tweaked, it would be far better. But the shows different, so I'd like to see it reworked for Broadway. We don't get a lot of "different" on Broadway these days it seems.

As for Paris Hilton being in it... I think she's passable in the movie for the part she's playing, but I don't see her ever being on Broadway (or at least respectably on Broadway).

No. I saw the movie on Thursday and loved it but how will they show the intestines being pulled out of people? It's like the black knight loosing his limbs: lame!

But with Paris Hilton and Sarah Brightman coming back to stage, it might be a killer!
I once heard someone describe her (Ruthie Henshall) singing as sounding as though she's trying to swallow a whole meatball slightly larger than her windpipe. (The same person compared Michael Ball's singing to sounding as though he's sitting on a washing machine on spin cycle and Colm Wilkinson's to a man with a paralyzed lip trying to eat cottage cheese.) --- Schmerg_The_Impaler

Lotte - this wouldn't be the first time Repo! is put on stage...it started out as a stage musical in LA.

I also think it could work off-Broadway (although Hilton probably would not agree to do it off-Broadway). I don't really think they have the money to mount it on Broadway. They're taking a very limited approach to just screening the film, it doesn't seem like they're even trying to make money.

Personally, I haven't seen it, but I think the music is nothing spectacular, but pretty catchy (plus I heart Sarah Brightman), and the concept is pretty cool, but it sounds like they're trying WAY too hard to become a cult classic...and most of the critics agree with me.

I think it could be great Off Broadway. The movie was a lot better than I expected. Sure, the lyrics were nothing to write home about but the story was fun and I had a good time watching it. I am a Anthony Head fan but Sarah Brightman stole the show for me. Her final scene in the movie...loved it

dalefully - The limited release is one of many spiteful moves on behalf of the new studio head at Lionsgate to make all films made before his arrival fail miserably. "Midnight Meat Train" is another example. If you look around for info about either Repo! or MMT, I'm sure you'll find mention of it.

Borstalboy, couldn't have said it better myself! I enjoyed the movie and all but are people going to go dressed as organs? They definitely focused too much on the cult, RH Jr part.

But yeah, I loved Blind Mag's (SB) opera!

Thought I'd bring this topic back up for anyone interested... Repo: The Genetic Opera is supposed to be back in certain theatres March 19th, more or less to repond to what is being called a blatant rip off in the new Universal film, Repo Men.

And to refer back to the conversation that was already going on in this topic, Repo: The Genetic Opera supposedly had a run off-off Broadway at Wings in, I think 2005? I'd be curious if anyone saw it.

I only saw the movie last month at a convention I attended, with the writer introducing the movie, and a shadowcast performing. I enjoyed it, and came to see if it had been discussed before.

I actually enjoyed the movie more the second time I saw it. They were doing a viewing with a shadowcast on Long Island a few weeks ago. I wanted to go but could't get to it. I hope it comes to a theater in my area.

I wsas thinking the samething that this new movie REPOMEN is way too much of a rip-off. I mean really.....

I own a copy of repo!the genetic opera but have yet to watch it.

Terrence Zdunich (one of the creators of REPO!) wrote a long, but interesting blog on his website about this.

He consulted a bunch of entertainment lawyers and they all told him the same thing: ideas are not copywrited. That means that Repo Men has to have whole chunks of dialogue or text lifted straight out of REPO! for them to be able to take any action. As it is, they cannot do anything just because Repo Men clearly has a similar idea.

Further, Terrence himself admits that, beyond the overall concept (which, you'll remember, is not copywritable), there isn't much in common between the two films. For one thing, Repo Men isn't a musical.

Hes written 2 blogs actually, as did the director recently which includes more specific comparisons. Even if there were legal action that could be pursued, it wouldn't be Terrance's job to do it, it would have to be Lionsgate taking issue with Universal and I'm sure Lionsgate isn't willing to spend the money on a movie they only made 12 prints of even if they had a great case, which I will agree they probably dont but I'm not a lawyer. The creators at this point I think are just trying to pray for some mentions in reviews and no ill effects from fans attending Repo Men dressed at Repo! characters, as I've read many plan to do on their message board.

Anyway, I'm guessing then that no one saw it off off Broadway at Wings? I can't even find a review of the production. Strange. And the video clips on Youtube are all of an even earlier stage production from LA.

I hated that movie!!! Sarah Brightman was pretty good in it though. Actually, the entire cast, I remember Paul Sorvino and other big names were in it, and they were good, I just hated the material.
I doubt Sarah would come back to Broadway, but one can only wish...

The cast was fantastic, the story was good, it was interesting to look at, even some of the music was catchy. It just happened to sport some of the worst lyrics ever written for any musical project ever, and that dragged the whole thing down.

If this show comes to Broadway, it's going to make Sweeney Todd look like someone who inflicts paper cuts.

Would love to see Sarah come back...same for seeing Paul Sorvino. But Paris Hilton?? I'm still waiting for someone to push her over a cliff.

I loved Evil Dead. It was a lot of fun.

Repo is such a weird creature. I was laughing at the awfulness of the lyrics and music, and yet found myself strangely invested in the story.
If the score was more conventionally hummable I bet it would be a much larger cult hit.

But at the end of the day any show in which Paris Hilton's face melts off gets an automatic A+.
