No! And I'm sorry if it sounded like I was accusing you of snubbing them, I was just curious since you said you didn't get to meet Hadley if that was why!

No, not at all. Perfectly valid question and you were right. I missed him cause I had left by the time he came out. I missed quite a few people

I've not posted here about this since seeing the show. I had so many thoughts that it was difficult to boil them down, as it were!
I believe the show I saw on November 10th and 11th would have quite a respectable run on Broadway.
I believe that, with the right changes, it can be a HIT on Broadway.
Agreed--no casting changes need be made (unless they want to ADD people). Agreed that the costumes are amazing (Especially Elizabeth's, plus Dubhdara's leather coat and chieftain cloak--but I really covet Grania's "Here On This Night" outfit, her tartan plaid (I'm talking "played," not "plad," here!), and her traveling dress. And the wedding cape.). I left the theatre humming/singing some of the songs. I was able to understand almost every word of every song.
All that said--I'm glad they're still working on this, because it DOES still need work. Yes, the pacing seems odd at times (example: just how many years are supposed to have passed during the course of the musical? Because Eoin is born less than two years after Grania marries Donal, but he's only about five or six at the most at the end, which would make Grania about thirty when she's clearly supposed to be much older). The changes they've made so far have all been for the good, bookwise (though I STILL wish we could have "Because I Am a Wife" Back, from a lyric point of view), and they will no doubt continue to improve the show.
So many things were so much BETTER than what I'd anticipated, based on some of the comments I'd read here and elsewhere (though perhaps some of those were based on earlier incarnations). I also did note that it was a very different show when seen from the third row than it was when seen from the Dress Circle. From farther back, I really enjoyed the spectacle, but up close I felt a part of the story. Hopefully they'll figure out a way to draw in those audience members who are farther back.
Speaking of--let me just say that when I sat up close I was absolutely blown away by some of the acting choices made by cast members. If you have the oppportunity, watch Linda Balgord's face in her scenes with Bingham, and Steph's face in the wedding and christening scenes. Just--amazing. Truly. Worth lugging the opera glasses to the theatre for those moments alone.
By the way, someone said earlier "I'd also love to see a song between Tiernan and Donal"--this is a duet I for some reason had never considered, but now the mental image is KILLING me. Please, please, please tell me that Boublil, Dempsey, Maltby, or SOMEBODY reads this and recognizes what a great idea that is!
(And while they're at it, Grania needs another big, belty solo number as well as a more introspective one, the latter preferably incorporating a "choice" similar to the one the character had to make in the novel while at court. I'm just sayin'. Tiernan gets "Each In Time"--how about a "The Choice is Mine" or the like? I think I should write a letter to Santa....)
And, yes, most of the cast (leads as well as ensemble) are quite approachable, as well. Bill Youmans is FUNNY and Steph is, well, Steph. <3
I hope they release a complete cast recording instead of just highlights...and I'm already working on a trip to New York.
