Thoughts on the SHOWBOAT telecast

I did a quick search and didn't find any other threads on this topic:

 

Overall I enjoyed the production and was most impressed with Julian Ovendon and Jane Alexander.  

I was least impressed with Norm Lewis.  He was really struggling with the lower notes and seemed to lack the power "Ol' Man River" requires.  Is he really a baritone who was singing a bass role?
