Hmmm, I should add this to the list of recordings I need to go out and buy. I've heard a few clips of Sutton Foster from this show and loved it.

They asked for our opinion...isn't that what we're here for, whether she opened it or not?
Love the recording. I have to agree, I love the orchestrations, including the ones in the "Final Bows".

Ugh. As a musical theatre fan I KNOW its called a cast recording, but there are some days and times when honestly, I don't care. Does my calling it a soundtrack make the world end, or the recording less enjoyable? No.
Sorry to vent, I get called on this a lot and really don't understand what the difference/point is. (Which I am sure several people will try and enlighten me on now.....yay.)
However, when I read the beginning of this thread I knew people were going to pounce.

Posted: 4/4/05 at 3:31pmI was raised on the film and find it much better than the Broadway show. The film has some of my favorite moments from Ms. Andrews and I have always loved it. The Broadway show left me a bit cold, though I did love Sutton's performance and I think it is possibly the best thing Kudish has ever done (I didn't hear him go flat once during the performance and that's rare)

i agree the Muzzy songs for the stage version are not to the par of the rest of the show, or the movie. They were also, to my taste, staged poorly: particularly the Act One feature. That is not take away from Ralph's performance or that of the Muzzy on the tour (whose name i'm ashamed to say i've forgotten). Both did the best they could with lackluster material. The IDEA of a song called "No Prohibition on Love" for a 20's musical at least SOUNDS interesting though.
i wish i could have seen Leslie Uggams in the role, as i think she is an amazing performer with a great voice still (i'd love to see a Lena Horne bio musical with Heather Hedley as the younger Lena and Leslie as the older).
