Throughly Modern Millie Soundtrack

Hey, I just for the TMM soundtrack for Easter, and I haven't listened to it yet? Any comments on whether it's good? I don't know if I'll like the musical or not sooo...

back on topic its a very enjoyable recording

One of my favorite parts of the Cast Recording is that they have the curtain call music on it. The music is arranged in a way that you can hear which character is taking their bow (through their "theme" or "style"). The orchestrations are really neat, especially my favorite device... the quick rest, and slow but big accelerando for Millie's entrance.

Saw what you will about the rest of the recording, but I love the last track... but then again, I'm a theatre whore.

i love the recording. the show is so fun and sutton foster is amazing. i dont know what other peoples favorite songs are but i personally love "forget about the boy" or "not for the life of me". :)

haha i got some cds for easter as well! i always do, haha thats why i love searching for my easter basket (yes my parents still make me go on an easter hunt)

life is PANDEMONIUM.

Since you said "soundtrack," I assume you mean the film starring Julie Andrews. Is it very different from the original cast recording, starring Sutton Foster?

Yes - the Soundtrack of the movie is MUCH better than the original Broadway Cast recording...

"I don't really get the ending,all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang,and later she kissed him on the toilet,after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung,and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen,and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady?Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

personally, I think the soundtrack pales in comparison to the cast recording. but the soundtrack is good for having the Julie Andrews vocals and all the songs that were cut from the musical like "Tapioca", "Jazz Baby", "Poor Butterfly", "Rose of Washington Square", "Baby Face", and "Do It Again"... that is IF you actually got the soundtrack and not the cast recording. just a quick thought though: if you got the CD for Easter, and it was a gift, I assume, so it was free and all, and you haven't opened it to listen to it ... why ask us if it's any good? why not just open the damn thing and decide for yourself??? why do the people of BWW have to decide EVERYTHING for you? even if you don't like it you could sell it used on amazon and make a few bucks. where's the dilemma? would you like us now to pick out your spring wardrobe too?

perhaps VIV LA was considering exchanging his gift CD for another title, unopened...

why can't we all get along?!?!? *wink*

P.S. there is a great monologue in the play PARTY about calling a cast recording a soundtrack. Whenever someone corrects someone else about it (as opposed to just clarifying which version of plays-turned-movies and movies-turned-plays with a civil question) it makes me think of how the pis.s.y queen from that play reads the beads of the poor "straight boy just now turning gay" who makes the mistake. Yeah, it's a stereotype. But obviously, those come from truthful circumstances.

Will: They don't give out awards for helping people be gay... unless you count the Tonys. "I guarantee that we'll have tough times. I guarantee that at some point one or both of us will want to get out. But I also guarantee that if I don't ask you to be mine, I'll regret it for the rest of my life..."

I hate when people freak out and play stupid. It really pisses me off. You know very well that she meant cast recording, what's the point of playing dumb and acting ignorant? It's annoying to all.

Well yes but VivLaVieBoheme wrote that it was the soundtrack recieved for Easter. When I read this earlier (before the replies) I figured VivLaVieBoheme already had the cast album and had gotten the movie soundtrack to compare. So,
VivLaVieBoheme, please clarify if you got thr 2002 Broadway cast recording of the 1967 movie soundtrack?

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

What is sad to me is that they felt they had to delete TAPIOCA, JAZZ BABY and some of the best songs used in the movie. I will take the movie soundtrack anyday, if only MCA would release a good version, what they put out on CD was the original album master, not a transfer of the original music stems for the movie. What happens then is that the album master was changed for it to sound good on vinyl, so they add an echo to all of the voices, and make the midrange stand out. If you have ever heard some of Varese or Rhino's recent soundtracks, those are from original stems used for the movies. I listened to the broadway score, and thought the music could have been much better, and much more "20's" sounding. Just my opinion of course.

I could just picture Sheryl Lee doing Jazz Baby & Do It Again.
Only In New York was fine but As Long As I'm Here With You...WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT??? It was better than the song she wasdoing in previews,Aint no Prohibition On Love or some mess.They messed that part (Muzzy) up big time.

I love "Forget about the boy!" It's what made me go out and buy the recording. I also like "Not for the life of me" too. I've never seen it though sadly...

Thoroughly Modern Millie is a true jewel of a cast album. It has top rate cast members especially the gift to musical theatre, Sutton Foster. It is near impossible for you to not enjoy this incredible recording.

I love mine!!!! My favorite songs are Not for the life of me and the title song Throughly Modern Mille.....The speed test is good too......

Also, in regards to the 1967 film soundtrack.....the broadway musical version had the better songs, IMO.....
