I've been devoted to RENT for over 6 years now...nothing will ever take its place in my heart. I do love TTB as well, and it's just an impossible choice.

Can I just say that I HATE the argument that RENT owed it's success to Jonathan dying!? If that were the case, and RENT wasn't a strong enough show to survive without the real-life tragedy, the show would have closed a year later. The fact that it is still playing on Broadway after a decade PROVES that Jonathan's death didn't make RENT what it was. Thank you. *steps down off soap box*

Okay, am I the only person that thinks Erin Dilly looks like a drag queen in that picture? Just checking.

AH. Be still, my heart.

of COURSE it's stage makeup; they're both in full costume. He's got a bit on, too.

College Kid, really they wear make up on stage? Why? How? Gimme a break please!

I think the angle that she is shot at isn't flattering to her features at all and it makes her look a bit like a drag queen.

My vote goes to ttB. The music (in my opinion) is not only better than Rent, but one of the best scores ever. It's one of those CDs that I can listen to over and over and over...

As far as the book, I didn't really care that much for either one. Rent gets the edge, however, since the ttB book seemed to exist mostly as a way to tie the wonderful songs together.

I don't think "Rent" even holds a candle to "Tick..Tick...BOOM!". The music in TTB is by far superior and there is a story line. "Rent", while a successful play in it's own right only received the acclaim due to the unfortunate death of Jonathan Larson.

In that last posted pic of Raul, he looks a bit like Hank Azaria.

I really hate when people say that becuase its such a retarded thing to say. People love RENT because it deals with real life issues and it has great songs, not becuase Jon died. I first saw RENT and then found the soundtrack to Tick, Tick...BOOM! and although I never saw TTB, I thought it had really good songs and if its ever playing again i have to see it. It sounds like a truly good show. I have to say that I like RENT better but I might feel differently if I saw the show. TTB reminds me more of jonathan larson, dont you think? I think RENT is a funner soundtrack to listen to although i really like Boho Days and Therapy (i have more fav. but i thought those are fun to sing along with).

I saw Tick Tock a couple of years ago at the Shubert in Chicago. The consensus was it was pretty boring. However, the theater was terrible. They are now remodeling it. Maybe the cast was bad too, I can't remember except that we were disappointed. It is very forgettable.
