has anyone seen this show? (either in a regional production or off broadway)
I saw a regional production at midnight last night, and I was already familiar with the music, and I knew the BASIC plot...
But I thought it was FANTASTIC!
it was really funny! honestly, I wish it would open on broadway some day
it was so enjoyable and very clever
and up until the end, it was SO funny! then it got serious, but still, it is an amazing show!

If it opened on Broadway in today's world it would close immediately... It's also too soon for a revival of the prod.
I would like it to come back Off-Bway in like 5 years or so. It is a great show and would love to see it back in NY

I actually saw a production they did in LA a few summers ago. My mom got free tickets through her job and we were able to see it twice. It featured Wilson Cruz, Andrew Samonsky, and Tami Tappan Damiano. I absolutely loved it and still say Damiano does the best "Come to Your Senses" ever. Glad to hear of another fan of the show!
I actually went into the show knowing nothing about it and sat through the whole thing wondering about the extreme likeness of the story to Larson's life... only afterwards did I realize my stupidity in not knowing that it was based on his life. Good times!

Posted: 11/22/08 at 7:18pmI saw a production of Tick, tick...BOOM! a couple years ago at Daemen College, which is just outside of Buffalo (this was before I moved to NYC). I was familiar with the music and the story beforehand, so I was thrilled to finally see a live production of the show. And it was a fantastic production, so I ended up seeing it twice, dragging some friends and family along with me. I would LOVE to see a revival of the show in NYC at some point.

I don't think it's a show meant for broadway. It's a very small show.
I was fortunate to see every performance at the Jane St. Theater and can say it's one of the best off broadway shows I've seen. I still listen to the cd-it's great. Especially for all those Raul fans out there!

Posted: 11/22/08 at 7:34pmit is a very small show, but I think it would do great at the Helen Hayes... its small enough to be good, yet big enough for broadway

Posted: 11/22/08 at 7:40pmHmm, you know, it's hard to say about that show. It had a pretty short run at the Jane. Of course, 9/11 had something to do with it, but it didn't have a long run.

9/11 killed whatever chances it had of succeeding... i saw it twice over the summer of 2001 and it was pretty packed both times.
but the theater was just a few miles up the road from the world trade center and the name of the show was ticktickBOOM. i mean, come on. it still ran four months after 911 tho.
its a great lil show with some GORGEOUS music, but the real reason to see it was Raul Esparza. he was just... wow.

Granted this is not from the original production, but this girl kills it. Such a phenomenal job.

That was good, but she changed it a little.
If this link works, here's Amy doing it.

i know!!
im sure he would have had SO many more great hits!
But i must say, for being a semiautobigraphical musical, it was pretty good!
the only complaint would be the part at the end, where he found out his friend had aids... it was kinda just thrown in there.. it didnt have any lead up
but it was still an amazing piece!

Posted: 11/22/08 at 9:13pmI saw a fabulous regional production at the Alliance in Atlanta a few years ago. I knew the music beforehand, and the plot, but the actual show stunned and moved me.

Posted: 11/22/08 at 11:21pmI LOVE this show...saw it off-Broadway, unfortunately just missing Esparza but with Molly Ringwald and Joey McIntyre and it was still wonderful, I even prefer it to Rent. I also really recommend the CD, and I can get my Raul fix by listening to that. But Tick, Tick...BOOM! is a gem, as far as I'm concerned.

see i don't even like comparing it to RENT cuz i like to think of them as two different shows! i love them both, but Tick Tick boom is a lot funnier and def is a comedy, compared to Rent which is a drama
but this better live on forever because the script is genius!

Posted: 11/22/08 at 11:41pmthe off bway version was brilliant. Raul was captivating as was Jerry and Amy. I went back and saw it with the replacement casts and while they were great, it wasn't the same as the original 3. I do have to say that this is another show that got crushed by the saddness of 9-11. I wish they would bring it back in a few years.

Hmm funny this show should be mentioned- I'm actually directing a production of this show at Boston University December 4-7. Come check us out! http://people.bu.edu/jtguild.
I saw a regional production of the show last fall and fell in love with it. I found the show to be emotionally touching and very powerful, especially in a small theatre. The actor playing Jon had played Mark on the non-Eq. tour.

Posted: 11/23/08 at 4:30amI did get to see the original and it was great. Have the CD and its on the Pod. I second Mattbrain's feelings at the loss of such talent as Larson.

"If it opened on Broadway in today's world it would close immediately... It's also too soon for a revival of the prod."
It was never intended to be a Broadway show. It played one of the smallest off-Broadway theatres and struggled even there, and even before 9/11. The tour was pretty much a disaster financially and ended up being closed down early due to poor ticket sales. The show has been successful in regional productions all over the U.S. and Canada. It's unlikely to be back in NYC anytime soon.
