I am going to be in New York this year during the Tony Awards by complete coincidence, and thought how fun it might be to try and get tickets since I will be in New York already.
Anyone have an feedback they'd like to share about getting tickets to the Tonys?
Is it almost completely impossible to score a ticket?
Are there usually tickets available that aren't $500+?
Has anyone gone, and can describe what the experience was like an audience member?
Thank you all in advance!
(Hopefully no one will get angry with me about the fact that there might be another thread about this somewhere)...
Use the search function. Lots of threads from years past with loads of info.
I used the search function, and you end up having to sift through tons of posts that aren't about this. Plus, the only ones I could find are about five years old. I was hoping people might be willing to just answer this, especially with information from the last year or so...
1) Yes.
2) Also yes.
3) It was a loooooong night, but a really fun one. One of my favorite experiences ever.
Last year the cheapest tickets that were available to the public were $300 at the very rear. They had a special giveaway last year where hundreds of students showed up to enter a raffle in Midtown and if selected they received a ticket for $30 (the whole event was a nightmare).
Starcatchers: How were you able to score an impossible ticket?
It's not impossible to win the student lotto. They have done the student lotto a total of 3 times before, twice consecutively, and I have won it the two times I put my name in. It was crowded, but they raffled off over 100 tickets each time. They also have tickets on ticketmaster that are easy to grab. I believe the third mezz has been priced closer to $200.
edit: I just saw the previous response about the cheapest tickets being $300 now. They must have raised them by a lot after being at the Beacon for 2 years.

Of course, there were no public seats sold when they were at the Beacon. I haven't attended the Tonys for years but it is a fun evening because some of the best "stuff" is the hour before the broadcast, when certain awards are given, and the commercial breaks. Get ready to applaud on cue, too! But if you want anything to drink, be prepared to wait on line forever.
^Of course, nowadays they still give out some awards during the commercials.
