Oh look! Another negative comment about GV from the usually smart and valid JeffG, all's I know about Good Vibrations is that it's still around, and the happily lamented Tommyboyz is not.

"Friend in the show" indeed......

I'm just the messenger. I haven't seen GV yet. I was, however, amused that TimeOut would include it in their piece which features people hanging from their flesh and others in the polar bear club.

That quote was theirs, not mine.

No, you're not just the messenger. When you choose to post a quote from one story instead of from a gazillion others you could have quoted, you are engaging in editorial comment. Here are a couple of quotes from the City Guide Magazine review of Good Vibrations:

"The show . . offers a feast of new talent, including the five leads: David Larsen (Bobby), Kate Reinders (Caroline), Tituss Burgess (Eddie) and Jessica-Snow Wilson (Marcella). Perfectly cast for looks and charisma, these four—along with Brandon Wardell, who completes the central quintet—are terrific as teens straddling the fence between unrestrained partying and adult responsibility."

". . .clearly this is a production with an appeal that defies the generation gap. A little retro, a little silly, and with a lot of heart, it’s a show you’ll have fun sharing with the whole family."

I'm just the messenger. . .

Clearly I hit a nerve. And yes, I AM just the messenger. I didn't editorialize. I quoted. Had I made ANY comment about the quote, it would have been editorialized.

Using your logic, I would have to post each and every quote good and bad if I wanted to mention the fact that one publication referenced a show. That's a waste of everyone's time.

I guarantee had I just quoted a publication that raved about the show, you'd have no issue with my post at all. And that's fine.

Sinenomine, Can you let me know what issue of City Guide Magazine that was in, and also if you know what issue the New Yorkers article was in. It would be much appreciated, thanks

It's a no win situation when it comes to backing or bashing a show on this board.

Jeff,

That's not my logic. And, I'm not going to venture into the dangerous debate of whether Good Vibrations is indeed good. Every person who sees it has to decide for him or herself. What I'm saying is you can quote anything you want and you are indeed a messenger and you're under no obligation to cite every quote. But when you (or I, or anyone) chooses just one quote to cite, you can't just hide behind the weak defense that you're JUST a messenger. Having made the decision to cite one quote or another -- and having made the comment that it's a "humorous slam" -- you've engaged in editorial comment. You're both a messenger AND an editor. That's my only point.

P.S. Tried 3 times to include the City Guide link, but it won't work. I don't have a New Yorker link.

sinenomine, I wish I could shake your hand.
I think I got the City Guide link to work.

And sadly you are right KJP.

"But when you (or I, or anyone) chooses just one quote to cite, you can't just hide behind the weak defense that you're JUST a messenger."

So if I read something in an article, find it funny and quote it so other people can read and make their own decisions I am not a messenger?

But Jeff isn't making fun of GV. TimeOut is.

Thank you Blue Wizard. Apparently you "get it" I wasn't making fun of a show I haven't seen. Read my first post. Carefully. I was amused by TimeOut's inclusion of the show in their "crazy" things people do piece. Listen - it could have been Brooklyn, Dracula or fill in the blank show. I stil would have found the fact that they included a broadway show as something crazy people are doing. If you fail to see even remote humor in the concept, you need to seriously lighten up.

Again, would any of the people supporting GV in this thread be so touchy if it were a different show mentioned?
