Notice the lack of nominations for "Brooklyn" and "Little Women",not even a nod to Maureen McGovern? What do you think? We were talking about this last night, and I am guessing that the timing of opening of these two shows was a mistake(I know, I know, there are very strong opinions about both shows here!!). Were the producers hoping to capitalize on the success of "Wicked" and thought that they would attract the same legions of young girls to their shows? Were the resultant opening too early in the season? Speculations please!
Please NOTE: I am in no way saying that "Little Women" or "Brooklyn" deserved or did not deserve a nomination, just speculating on the timing of their openings!

timing certainly is everything...the world wasn't ready for dracula..
and on that note they werent ready for dance of the vampires when that was out either.
damn vampire haters! hahaha
It's true, some things that open later do better. But when push comes to shove, if someone gives an amazing rave-worthy performance, they will (and should) be remembered.
It was an incredibly, extremely stiff year all around. We had some very good, and some very bad. And the inbetweens. In any other year, Little Women might have been nominated a bit more. But this year, it just wasn't up to the others.
As for Brooklyn -- it didn't have a chance. Except for Ramona.

Being a good show and not getting a nod are different. I feel a few shows that didn't get nods are great shows. Timing as a big part but I also feel shows like Brklyn and LW would have been recieved the same if they would have opened the first day of the new season or last. It's a shame
If timing is the sole reason that Brooklyn didn't get any nods and Little Women only one for Sutton, then how do we explain that 3 out of the 5 nominees in the Leading Actress In A Play are from shows that closed already? Sight Unseen closed in July, Reckless in November and Gem Of The Ocean in February. Yet they have all been honoured with nominations.

popcultureboy,
Timing isn't everything but the plays you mentioned have movie/tv celebs attached to them. These people make for better ratings come TONY time. Although, Rashad and Liney are excellent!!
Then explain Jessica Lange and Denzel Wahsington being overlooked.

I agree. Timing is vital to Tony nominations and wins because most voters have an extremley short memory. :)
