I am worried that the whole NYC thing will affect my choice, but I think I am smart enough to go where I think is best. Right now, it is in the city.

I'm currently in the the audition process for several colleges. I applied to Carnegie Mellon, NYU, Marymount Manhattan and Fordham for Theatre Directing, and Point Park for acting. I was recently notified by Point Park that I didn't get in. At first I was disappointed, but then I realized that I didn't really want to go there anyway. I have an odd feeling for their school for some reason. But, I still have my auditions at NYU, Fordham, MMC, and Carnegie Mellon. I'm trying the best I can to put together a killer directing portfolio of sketch work and pseudo-stage notes for productions I would like to direct. I've been working on it for a little over a year now and, like I said, I'm trying to make it as good as possible. I'm not an exceptionally bright student, as I have a B average (3.4,) but I still have faith in my getting in to NYU, CMU, and Fordham.
As for the whole location ordeal, I have made up my mind that I am going to NY if I am accepted in any of those programs. If I am accepted to CMU in Pittsburgh, I'll definitely consider, but only if I don't get in a school in NY.
Holy long post, Batman!

PJ, I'm also at Tisch, not for directing, though. I have a couple of friends who are doing the directing thing and I'm pretty sure the portfolio for them contained directing work from actual productions they'd done or from class work they'd done in drama classes. I don't think it was stage notes for shows they'd like to direct. Maybe things have changed, though, because this was a few years ago. Anyway, thought I'd mention that. Good luck to you. alot of my friends from Strasberg & Adler were with me this summer in the professional program..what they do to help the cost of the school year is go to the CAP 21 summer program for 2 summers for credit so they can A) graduated early and B) save $20,000 a year.

amneris, I'm curious how they're managing to do that when all you get from the summer program is six points, and you can't repeat the same program twice for credit. And six points would not save you anywhere near $20,000 in tuition.

If you saw their production of Sweeney Todd you would reconsider applying to that school. It was awful. They should be embarrassed.
Well, if not Tisch (NYU), does anyone have any other suggestions that are (perferably) in or around NYC?

It is cutthroat but definitely not political. Basically they ride you so you keep on top of your training. They have a HUGE distribution of working alumni on broadway and the training is impeccable all around. The cutthroat aspect is the end of semester juries. If they feel you're not making the effort, they cut you. It seems reasonable to me, although I like being pushed like that it's more effective for me.
That was about CCM, PS
actually , you get 8 summer credits.. I will have to check with my friends. Perhaps all 6 of them are all lying hehehe.. You are allowed to do 2 years of your assigned studio and then switch if you are going to continue doing the hard classes such as math,science,english... that is what they are doing in order to graduate a semester or two earlier. their studios for 2 years and 2 summers at cap with academics in between. Maybe they changed the rules this year? Updated On: 12/3/04 at 10:17 AM
