re: To Be or Not to Be to Close Nov. 16

Well, that play be article says they had been selling individual tickets through the 23rd. Clearly, they decided not to go through with it based on the poor attendance and scathing reviews. Example of a show that should have probably closed on previews, and it might have had it not been produced by a non-for-profit theatre.
Will Jan Maxwell get her much-deserved hit?
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

Actually, the fact that To Be was part of the MTC subscription package is the only thing that saved it from closing immediately. In the old days ('50s, '60s), unless some sort of star power was involved, that kind of critical reception would have killed it on arrival.

It wasn't bad. It was just entirely unmemorable & unnecessary. I think it was MTC trying to play off the success of 39 STEPS.

But 39 STEPS had something to offer.

I don't know about anyone else, but I thought this show was TERRIBLE. I love MTC, so I always look for the silver lining in their shows (even in Top Girls, which I did not love). But the jokes for the most part never connected and I was actually bored after the first 25 minutes. The audience did not laugh at things I am sure were intended to be funny. The ending was horrid. It was so bad, I (who never tend to post here on BWW) felt compelled to log in and write this post. I applaud MTC for putting this show out of its misery and sparing the masses from this train wreck. Just my opinion.

Oh, I feel so sorry for all those actors who will be out of jobs!
