So I’m looking at whether a trip in November/December is worth it?
I saw Torch Song last year but would relish to see it again.
After that I’m really not seeing anything other than MFL worth traveling from UK for.
Has anyone some predictions? Interests are LGBTQ, revivals plays or musicals, would travel for Brigadoon or Moulin Rouge or Tootsie, Best Little Whorehouse but they seem scheduled for 2019 or on the never never.
Other interesting shows opening this fall outside of Torch Song are The Ferryman (which if you're in the UK, you might have already seen?), To Kill a Mockingbird, and maybe The Cher Show if it ends up being good. Otherwise, you're right that this isn't the most delicious fall season for Broadway. Most of the rumored "exciting" shows seem to be on track for the spring instead.
Angels in America will be long gone by November/December.
The Prom will be open and I believe it has LGBTQ themes as it involves a female student trying to take her girlfriend to prom. I don’t know much about it other than that though.
The prom is about 4 fading Broadway stars who go to a small town in Indiana to get the spotlight on them for helping a girl who wants to take her girlfriend to the prom.
The book is by Bob Martin who wrote and was Man In Chair in THE DROWSY CHAPERONE and Chad Beguelin. Casey Nicholaw is directing and Beth Leavel, Christopher Sieber and Brooks Ashmanskas are in it.
I am looking forward to this one. It will be the first production in the newly renovated Cort Theater.
Can you come earlier than November? I haven't seen them to report back but off-Broadway is more interesting me than Broadway right now. In terms of revivals, there's On A Clear Day at Irish Rep, Carmen Jones at CSC, and a Yiddish production of Fiddler directed by Joel Grey that I'm considering. For LGBTQ representation, I don't know the specifics of This Ain't No Disco at the Atlantic, but I'd be shocked if it was an entirely straight (in terms of the characters, not the actors) play. And it's got an encouragingly strong roster of young actors regardless. If you come in June or July, most or all of these shows will be playing. Also, I think the revival of Once on This Island is worth seeing if you're here and I'm worried it won't last past the summer.
And if you come later, there's a chance one of the shows you mentioned may have moved in. But I can't see them coming any sooner than the spring or fall next year. I really enjoyed Brigadoon at Encores but I don't think it will (or should) transfer. It's too dated unless there are edits.
